No, its to stop people abusing the emojis by just laughing at posts (which is just plain rude) , you can still write and reply in a negative and critical way .

Did you ever get upset because too many people clicked on that laugh emoji?

Sometime I wonder why some people do that for some comments. But I wonder maybe half a second about it. It's not important and I think nobody should take it serious.

Next thing: should we worry if that dog next door somehow barked more than usual? What did I do wrong? What can I do so that the dog loves me again? Important questions ...

Maybe the people want to express that others shouldn't take things so seriously.

Its rather rude and  annoying when some posters just laugh at your every post , its like they are stalking you and when you log on you get 20 notifications that so and so is laughing at your posts , quite rude

I switched off the notifications for reactions a long time ago. If someone quotes me, then I still get a notification and often I look at it. But a notification for each reaction would definitely be too much - at least for my taste.

Its still rude to laugh at someone's opinion, just because you disagree with them

Why is it rude?

I remember recently some stories from Bob. It was laughable and lots of people used those laugh emoji.

Was that what Bob was hoping for? Probably not. But why would anybody take that guy serious?

so... you are offended by someone laughing at your opinion ?

Not offended , just annoying and frustrating talking to people who can only reply with limited facial expressions in the way of emojis .

I was talking about real interactions, such as we are playing golf and you say something such as "Coronavirus is a fabrication of the establishment" and I just laugh out loud. Would I be rude ?

This is the "NEW NORMAL" we're no longer allowed to have an opinion. This is of course total BS and pathetic, but hey - that's just my opinion.

I dont use emojis, or like posts, or, if i did it was very rarely.

I think it is idiotic to be offended by them in any way.

Here you've exposed the liberal mindset for what it is and I find that ironic, because I know you lean very much leftward (and that's okay by me). Can you imagine a conservative trying to censor your speech or your opinion? I think not....even Bill Maher wouldn't try to go there.

If you're not allowed to have an opinion then how come you can write that?

In one sentence you say, "we're no long allowed to have an opinion", and in the very next sentence you say, "that's just my opinion".

Thats a different situation, we are talking about anonymous forums .

Playing golf  with friends would be a different environment and situation

You are still allowed to have an opinion though , no one has taken that way from you .

Alas...and after all this time I was hoping there would eventually be a "thumbs down" icon.

the statement remains equally comical regardless.

These days we are seeing less and less quality posts and a lot more news articles from other sources thrown into the forum.

Sometimes when you change things, it just keeps getting worse.

Could possibly be a small team having to cover all the other Asean countries does not have the time just to concentrate on Thailand?

I am sure 100% would agree there have been some outrageous and far-fetched posts written on this forum.

There should be a way to call disatisfaction to those type of posts.

What is troubling, it is either newbie visa questions or other news articles already read at the the source.

Haven't read a good post or a real barn burner between members for quite some time

Do explain why

when posting an opinion that could be considered controversial, you better back it up with solid facts from solid sources if you don't want to get laughed at.

it's the basis for any serious statement in any environment, really.

you yourself stated that you don't like people laughing at your serious statements.

but what you are doing by just stating something without backing it up, is inviting laughter.

also, there is a good point several authors made about ignorance and "facts" that have been proven false not being an (valid) opinion. the problem here is about drawing the line, it's not always easy.

I  think the deletions are a highly positive change.

If you want to make a negative comment about a post, just bloody reply to it! Nobody is stopping you except yourself.

The complaints here are transparently disingenuous. We all know the vast majority of sad and laugh ones were used negatively.

Get over it my droogies.

Oh, now I see there is a heart emoji, how lovely.

Not any more.

I just looked up myself under reputation and it is either like or thanks and nothing else.

Taking the other emoticons off will have a long term knock on effect that I suspect nobody thought about?

Thank you for your comments.

If there is any long term knock on effect it should be a positive one. I say this because of the way reactions affect your member reputation. Previously, if you received a  "Like", "Thanks" or "HaHa" reaction your reputation was increased by one point for each reaction received. Receiving a "Sad" or "Confused" reaction had no effect on your reputation.

Currently, the use of the "HaHa" reaction is suspended, however any previous points added to a member's reputation for a "HaHa" reaction will remain. As discussed above there are now two additional reactions which will give members more ways to award and receive reactions from others; "Thumbs Up" and "Love It".
