Anutin: "They" may have stopped wearing masks but Thais are still "naa rak" for keeping them on to prevent disease

This is the fundamental purpose of wearing a mask.  PROTECTING OTHERS.  And Thai people care to protect their families, their parents, their aunts, uncles, cousins. They  are 'lovely' in this regard.  They are also distinct from people who do not care except their own discomfort and selfish lack of concern about others.   'Wearing a mask helps stop infected people from spreading disease to others. Evidence also suggests that masks may offer some protection for the people wearing them.'   It is not about you! It's about others.

At home none of us wear a mask, Not me, my wife or our 18 year old son. My son wears one at school, my wife sometimes wears one when she is out and about, I don't wear one, but carry one in case a Thai asks me to wear it. My neighbours don't wear one at home. Some shops in the village do wear masks but don't ask me to wear mine other than the bank.

Even the MoH says it is not compulsory.

If you want to wear one the please do so, but don't complain if others don't. If it is compulsory then I will wear one outside. As it is not compulsory, it is MY choice to wear one or not, and NOT yours to choose for me.

But we are Thai and are easily brainwashed Into being controlled

The mask mandate was lifted months ago.  All other Covid restrictions dropped.

How are they being controlled exactly?  No one can ever answer this question, can you be the first?

Gladly, the tide is starting to turn on this despite Anutins comments.

Reports are the Bangkok governor is actively considering changes in masking.

It will change, it has to, the current masking habit is untenable.

As "Health Minister" - maybe Anutin should be asking why Thailand still has endemic TB/Polio when the dirty Farang eliminated it decades ago......

There should not be leprosy or TB cuz I've seen they have huge big posters.

Yes, plenty.  I dare say most of Asia.

In the last two months I have been to Vietnam - mostly wearing masks; Singapore, still very common; Malaysia, mostly wearing masks.  I will be in Manila next week where I am told everyone wears masks.

Josephbloggs reporting from Manila - 95% mask wearing.  Pretty much exactly like Bangkok.

I have worn a mask for the bad air days in Bangkok, you know smog.

That was before COVID even came along, but the rest of you expats

know best.  When I hear people around me coughing in a crowd I now mask up as well as

I am old and do not need or want the regular colds or flu that is also out there.

Thanks.

They are being controled by the  the so called specialists and politicians and the media who keep scaremongering about this mutation this variant that variant.

I see Thais on a deserted beach by me alone and wearing a mask. If that's not brainwashed control zi don't know what is

unless your mask was rated N95 or N99, and by far the vast majority of masks i see worn aren't, then you will receive very little protection from urban air pollution particles.

My wife still wears a mask.

Not because she thinks they work or even that shes at risk from covid.

Her reason? Other Thais give her stink-eye if shes not wearing one.

Not very na raak that, is it?

People in other places may have stopped wearing them but we Thais are still doing it.

Codswallop. They might do in the limelight because it is expected—a bit sheeple like that. But when out and about, even in groups, IME they don’t. Have many friends who are as dismissive of covid and masks as any foreigner.

It's not required anywhere hardly now, certainly not on the BTS, or 7/11, or shopping malls, no domestic airlines requires them - you can fly AirAsia, ThaiSmile, Nok, Lion and do all airport formalities without a mask.

The remaining hold outs appear to be a few government offices and some banks, although I suspect this will change soon. Oh and hospitals still although someone people in the waiting room were demuzzled when I was there - as I had other things on my mind and I didn't want to argue with ignorant promasker in a waiting room at hospital on this rare occasion I reluctantly did a bit of face diapering for 20minutes..

There is a still a perception issue though, some people mistakenly presume for example you have to wear at EmQuarter due to a poster from earlier in the year, and I guess some people could mistake the silly temperature sensors at 7/11 as meaning requirement, but that is purely inferred  - masks are optional.

Start of sept I did 6 flights, 5 Nok, 1 Airasia.  100% masks.  In the airports 95% masks. Of the unmasked 90% were foreigners.
Amazing how delicate some people are that a little piece of fabric bothers them. I loved the Olympic Female Hockey finals, Canadian team wore masks the whole time, and won.  "oh, I cant breathe with a mask"  delicate little flowers.
Hats off to the Thai people for being considerate of their fellow humans, thanks.

Are you talking about yellow stars? Was the size or fabric type or the method of attachment of the ribbon important?

I've did several flights this month too from both BKK and DMK, and I thoroughly disagree with your numbers, in the airports more are than not but that's only because of Thai herd mentality discussed to death elsewhere, it is nowhere near 95%, I would say it's currently at 70% in the airport on the domestic side, on board around 85%-90%..  Regardless, like back home (wherever that is unless mainland China) it is not required or expected, or necessary. and I certainly won't be encourage this nonsense any longer just because when in rome.. (also not just limited to farangs - several young - presume uni educated Thais  on unmasked on my flight the other day so even the natives are adapting, finally)
