Widespread flooding in Phuket on Sunday following heavy rainfall

image.jpeg

Many areas of Phuket, including the old commercial centre and some beach roads, are flooded this morning (Sunday), following heavy downpours throughout last night.

The Klang Road in the old commercial area, which includes the clock tower, Thao Thep Kasattri and the Thao Si Sunthon Monument, is under up to a metre of water this morning, making it impassable to small vehicles.

The Patong beach road is also flooded by rain water. In the Kamala beach area, flash floods, caused by runoff from the mountain, have left the road submerged, forcing to abandontheir vehicles on roadsides.

Bad city planning or bad city officials doing nothing ?

Does Phuket have this problem every year?  I'm used to hearing about it in other parts of Thailand but do not recall here:. May have simply missed the news.

a whole lot of both.

Not a sandbox anymore more like a sponge box from the destruction of covid now to this good luck to the inhabitants and businesses it looks a nightmare to far for most I fear ????

Isn't nature a nuisance?! Adapt adapt adapt ... If this fails then scream 'the sky is falling' !!

Ah yes, "Sandbox", I had forgotten that expression. My soi cat still leaves sultanas in any sand.

Phuket is a "must see once" destination. Sure as hell you wont go back.????????

Looks like the weather still hasn't settled?

The south being the only region with widespread rain.

You don't miss an opportunity to bash, do you? Sorry that you have to live in a country you despise so much.

Nature happens, you cannot always plan for everything. I lived in Arizona, where flash floods kill a few every summer. I lived in Germany, where "high water" is common every year along the Rhein and many cars and houses are damaged. I lived in Japan, where tsunamis and earthquakes take huge tolls. Want to comment on how city officials do nothing there?

Yes and yes.

Sensationalist headline. I had no problems at all going from Rawai to the big Makro. I'm sure it affected certain parts, but 'Phuket paralyzed', no.

There are heavy rains every year during monsoon season but this year is unusual in its intensity and duration.
