Opening hours for bars, malls, and many other venues could be shrunk to save electricity

How about charging market rates for juice and let competition decide the price, rather than set a low price by government edict which always leads to shortages?

They have it partially right,  as to shut off the AC I am not sure, but looking at Most streets in BKK Pats the simple solution would be to 

a. get rid of the neon jungle

b. mandate that office buildings have a shutdown and turn on the system.  All Power except emergency is shut off in office buildings and offices at 7 pm  and turned back on at 6 am

c. temporarily shut down the big tv ad screens

 

Peak usage time is a bit of a joke.  Peak usage in parts of a city is completely different than in others.  NANA peak usage is 5 pm to 2 am  Residential BKK it is from 5 - 9 at night

 

People are starting to realize that going green is a great thing on paper, but in reality, it is a non-starter at this stage.  You need fossil fuels to power the generation of energy.

 

The only country that is making any gains in green energy is China.  Not because they are going green but because they are fleecing the rest of the world with their technology.

If they want to save electric then starting with Govt Offices would be a great start. Our local Amphur, PEA, Tessabaan, Orbitor and Hospital are all lit up like Christmas trees at night.

I think they were staying on the fence to avoid any financial consequences. Now might be a good time to rethink that. If the war could be stopped that would help.

I read a study maybe 15 yrs ago about the huge energy savings Bangkok could have if air con was set on "comfort" rather than "walk in freezer" levels at malls and such. Something very off when a person needs to take a blanket if going to see a film. I can only take maybe 20 min of a mall before hypothermia sets in

Increase the price of Alcohol  drinks in the bars or night clubs to offset the cost of electricity bills

Even if the war stopped tomorrow there would still be an energy issue.  The world is growing and people need hydro waterways are no longer the answer. But then again neither is green energy

As long as I can see staff standing/running around in air conditioned offices, shopping centres or predominantly government office buildings wearing Himalayan-proof winter gear ........... 

As long as I see supermarkets and shopping centres without air curtains on building exits .....

Many municipalities running street lights during the day (not on a survey/repair trip but for months) and nothing is undertaken despite calling them twice a week ......... 

Every 2-star hotel featuring a (sometimes huge, family size) fridge in the room for the pleasure of two glass bottles of drinking water ..........

Education, education, education ......... would be the answer and not the bar lights!
