Russian Soldiers Are Freezing To Death In Eastern Ukraine

The Ukrainian army has deployed some of its best brigades to eastern Ukraine, including the 92nd and 93rd Mechanized Brigades and the 1st Presidential Brigade.

 

But these elite Ukrainian formations might not be the biggest killer of Russian troops in the east. Under-trained, under-supplied and ambivalently led, Russians in the region are freezing to death by the dozen.

I feel sorry for the Russian troops simply because they are poorly trained and very badly led by their officers.

 

A good officer makes sure that their troops are well fed, sheltered and looked after. A really good or a brilliant officer makes sure that his troops are fed and sheltered before himself.

 

However it seems that the Russian army officers take after their leaders and look after themselves and leave their troops to find what food and shelter they can.

 

It is NOT the way to win a battle or a war, and the troops will only reluctantly fight and only then if they have to.

No army will fight on an empty stomach. The Russians famously beat the Germans in WW2 because of different boots in winter.

It's an unpopular war just like in Afghanistan or US in Vietnam and history tell us that it is unwinnable.

My sympathy only goes so far. When a genocidal nation like Russia deliberately takes out the electrical grid of Ukraine, during the winter, they get what they deserve. That act is barbaric, cruel, nasty, inhumane, and vicious, just like the madman Vlad. It might appear his right to claim oxygen has expired.

The Russians were once famous for being hardy. However, their political officers would shoot them on the spot if they failed to attack or run toward the enemy without ammunition. They won through sheers numbers (Stalin had executed the best officers). Let's see if they have the numbers to outlive the Ukrainians,

Russias history in the most recent past with its War crimes and interference in many conflicts around the Globe ,

_ Afghanistan, Syria Etc , and now the unprovoked Invasion of a European Country has won them very few friends.

Well they can always step back over the Russian border and protest to their own people about the injustice of the Russian Army Beaurocracy. I'm sure that the Ukrainians who are freezing to death in their own homes because of Russian bombardment won't stop the Russian invaders from leaving.

Putin and his hawkish Generals thought that the invasion will be over in weeks with President Zelenskyy fleeing the country and the Ukrainians succumbing timidly. They didn't count on the resolve of the President and Ukrainian nationalist pride. Putin also didn't think that the Western powers have to gumption to confront Russia by arming Ukraine. They were lucky that Biden was POTUS as he rallied the NATO countries to stand firm and confront Russia. Now it's too late for Putin as his soldiers are dying in the fields and their southern supply lines are harassed by Ukrainian's artillery. Putin is in a no win situation on the war fronts and at home.

What about all those stories about Russian conscripts having to buy their own uniforms? Fake news as well? Are the Chechen conscripts as well equipped as the Russians?

Actually, from the pictures and vids I have seen on TG, the Chechen are at least as well, if not better equipped - Kadyrov will see to that.

Agree, I saw this on service in Vietnam;  One CO was a tyrant and enjoyed finding fault and did nothing in terms of support and welfare. Also he was an alchholic. A couple of times was found early morning asleep in a ditch.

 

Next CO exactly the opposite, took 24 hours or less for all under his command to see that he was focused, he was highly capable, he recognized that his troops mattered and deserved support, respect and care. He visited sections and platoons every day and where possible drank cofffee out of a discarded rations can, he listened and he explained. And he followed up on every promise etc. His troops were highyl committed to him and it showed.

I don’t disagree with your points. However this is Putin’s war and he will not

relent on his aggression. At the same time, Zelensky will not negotiate with Russia as long as Putin is in power. There is a better chance for peace negotiation without Putin in power.
