So this album came out after years of silence from Mr. Orbison, and on the heels of the Traveling Wilburys album (or was it vice versa?). Anyway, heard this tune on the radio, headed for the good stuff record shop with the oddball crazy owner. Wouldn't sell it to me on the grounds that you're-just-into-the-hype or something like that. I return the other day with a couple of mint condition Orbison LP's and we're all good. When I ditched my LP collection brought them both to him as a parting gift.

At some point in my younger days, I signed up to study sound engineering. By that time I already realized the limits of my musical potential (not bad, but..), so this seemed like some second best shot. Didn't work out as just wasn't into the technical stuff. Owner of the school/studio was decent enough to refund tuition fees, and told me I would have made a decent producer, if there was an avenue to get there (because, apparently, I understand what a guitar player means when he asks for a 'browner' sound....or something). Anyways, one of the first classes/demos featured this tune:

I think there were 3 great music periods in our lifetimes.

From around 1965 to the early 1970's. An explosion of amazing music, lyrics and social awareness.

From the late 70s to the late 1980s. Incredible funk, old school hip hop, and great British music from bands ranging from Joy Division to Depeche Mode to the Cure (the ballads), Morrissey, Tears for Fears (the ballads), and so many more.

Then Electronica from around 1996 to about 2003. Amazing creativity. DJ Shadow, Tosca, Faithless, Lamb, Red Snapper, DJ Krush, Coldcut, Zero 7, N.E.R.D., Boards of Canada, etc. Brilliant stuff.

Since then? Not much. Dreadful hip hop, way too much lousy pop, boring and lifeless lyrics, and not much content. Reflective of Gen Z? Who knows. Just not much there.

A couple of Pages back we talked about Herman Brood / Nina Hagen.

See what I dug up from YT (1974 before her breakthrough with the Nina Hagen Band)

For example who don't know Nina Hagen, this is one of the songs from her breakthrough Debut Album (Cover of the Tubes)

So Stevie, yeah...but what about Jimmy? How does one deal being in the shadow of a younger, more talented, and gone in his prime, brother? I dunno. This is a 2010 recording, but an old number. On the stage are BB King, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, and Jimmy. Now, Jimmy ain't in their league no matter how you cut it. But that night, for a couple of minutes he absolutely shines, takes charge and brings it home. Richard Cousins on bass, and if anyone knows who's the old-timer in 6:27, I'll be glad to know.

Clapton doing his thing, Steve Gadd on drums, Willie Weeks on bass. What's not to love? Ok, so it did take me a while to get into the vocals, WW could have chosen a different shirt, and the girl behind Ronnie Wood (2:17) is weird:

It is almost the same as with this band. They got known by a ballad "more then words".

Then at that time someone told, they were totally different with other songs on CD and let me hear.

I believe I have all CD's in possession now in the time they were running.

From first CD pornografitti took this number, number really starts at 1:10 minute, there is an intro.
