Foreigners. I was at a BKK bank ATM and a man to my left having suddenly punched his ATM screen so hard I had no choice but to look suddenly. It was a white westerner who said to me then  "It's out of order" in an accent of my country,  U.S.A.  How would you react? I forced myself to avoid making a sneer of utter contempt as if striking an ATM is some kind or normal and simply walked away. The bank was still closed otherwise I would have grassed him to a guard.

I'd go with a shruggy, Tony Soprano-esque, "Whaduhya gonna do?

 

No double-way would I be dragging an innocent guard into it who clearly doesn't want to be involved.

I would imaging an ATM is constructed to withstand the rage of your average user? I can't see the OP's problem.

Why would you grass someone who obviously has anger management problems. He will show his anger somewhere else and end up getting a beating.

Maybe he had a terrible day and the broken ATM was the last straw.

Anybody can have a bad day but I don't think you come to Thailand and start punching ATMs like in the violent broken society one arrived from. Where nothing seems to work. Where just walking down the street and can be deadly.  Was the ATM broken or is he having a card or bank issue? Completely inexcusable behaviour

 

I'm sure a simple criminal check would show this guy has a long list of anti-social offenses to his name and should never have been let into the Kingdom in the first place.

One time, my card wouldn't come all of the way out of the ATM slot. And at a 7/11, not a bank where I could get help.

 

I gave someone 100 baht to stand by the machine and went across the soi to a nail salon, borrowed a pair of tweezers (another 100 baht) and plucked the card right out.

 

Did I rage? A bit.

I did not inspect it but there is no way to know without  a complete test of the equipment if this brute caused any damage.

I'm pretty sure that the point of your OP was to suggest that it had been damaged, hence the "grassing", "hard-fisted" and "brute" (!) references.   

 

Out-of-order ATMs are not unusual, it generally just means that it has run out of cash to dispense.

Most likely he wouldn't have done it had the bank been open and a guard been present.
