An emoji is an opinion? That's a pretty low standard to set for what qualifies as an opinion.

good point.

it's a lazy way out to avoid expressing an opinion.

You are guessing wrong  , I wouldn't have sent you a PM just because you disagreed with me .

You called one of my female friends a prostitute and even when I stated that she wasn't a prostitute , you kept inferring that she was and you also claimed that I was "Leaver" and you asked whether my friend was homeless .

I then sked you to stop the abuse on line and take it to PM's

i never say prostitute, it's your imagination

They took it away in September 2022 but following a thread by Onemorefarang which you can find on page 2 it came back. At the time I posted this:

I think the smiley face needs to come back. Many posts are funny and deserve a smile. Giving it one of the symbols available suggests agreement or love rather than amusement. Sometimes it is funny - not necessarily correct as such.

Imagine if any time you told a joke someone said 'I agree' or 'I love that' .. it ain't right.

Could reply to the message with a smile but that's stupid too. They might make a joke on page 2 and my smile appears on page 10. Stop mucking around and bring it back.

The only context I see it as an issue is for some of the serious posters who research stuff and actually make a worthwhile contribution in the news section e.g. posts on the Ukraine war topic are a good source of news that I often don't see in my normal news. Putting laughing emojis on some of those posts is poor form and sometimes bad taste.

But in other situations I think posters should take it easy. Sometimes a smiley face is better than no reaction at all and it's nothing to care about.

This is all much ado about nothing but there it is.

Hidden behind the multitude of ads?

Most of the term cutting in to comments and posts.

Attention all posters!!

This thread is an excellent demonstration as to why the forum Admin have decided that the laugh reaction is more trouble than it is worth.

Sorry and all that, but if you can't all behave then the toys will be taken away.

???? LOL

Or an alternate to actually having one.

One poster who is prone to writing lengthy dissertations, recently argued  a case in favor of his topic of the day although the argument wasn't based on any quoted fact and no links were supplied to support it. I posted an opposite view but supported mine with numbers and quoted and linked facts. That posters response was surprising, he posted a laughing emoji. Others have done similar in the past and I always wonder why that is. I think the psychology is interesting and wonder what sort of message were they trying to send. Regardless of the message they were trying to send, the one I received was, my hypothesis has been undercut by fact that I can't dispute and now I look silly, rather than try and debate it I'll exit and limit the damage by making the other guy appear silly.

I confess I still don't fully understand those things.

If a few members were trying to wind others up by "misusing an emoji" and that emoji has been removed, all that will happen is they will find some other way to do the winding up.

If the situation was as bad as is being made out and the offenders weren't in the hundreds, why not just warn them and then ban them?

Treating everyone like children, along with the overload on ads, will just drive people away from this forum.

One thing is important to remember, some emojis can be placed by a mistake especially from phones in a hurry, and do not double check.

Others just A holes, trolling, drunk, stoned or out of mental balance, or they found some writing errors which maybe give it a different meaning. Who knows

Sometimes you just have to ignore it, and do not spend to much energy on other members on forums like this.

Oh yeah , bargirls are just the cashier who only started work on Monday , I forgot that .

My reply would be to the serial laughers,

This implies that Community Pub is this vast sea of serial laughers when maybe 20 people post here on an average day.

How many serial laughers have you actually endured?

And was that serially, or all at the same time? I hope I'm never a serial, serial laugher.

Skipping to the end, this is someone else's living room.

Someone else who's paying for the server time and seeking out advertisers so that I can be entertained without spending dime-one.. So woke, fearlessly iconoclast, or 555-fest of yesteryear, whatever they want to do is fine by me.

Four

Over how long?

Were you ever multiply-serially laughed at, at the same time?

True...  one poster twit with whom I disagree with quite often used the ‘laugh emoji’ on nearly all of my posts for a while...  he was clearly trolling me.... very easy to ignore though so it never bothered me at all....

I don’t really know why it would upset some posters such that it requires removal - some posters are just too thin skinned.

I much prefer the +1 / -1 days....  IMO its perfectly fine for a poster who doesn’t agree with or dislikes what I have written to post a -1....

Thank you Richard! I also agree with the part with too thin skin. I am happy to have the moronic discussions. Thank you for being here ????

????????????..... I know, it´s a serial thing. Also, it was actually @Hummin that said you deserved it. ????

Now to the facts. A Bargirl and a Prostitute is absoultely not same. Just look at the spelling and the letters.

They only usually last for a few days , they don't often overlap each other .

Some snowflake gets upset about something , doesn't have the ability to talk and just responds with a barrage of laughing emojis over the course of a few days in various threads .

If he's really upset , it can last for a week

These last forums where a few regulars show up daily are like watering holes for an endangered species of congenial cranks, soon to be wholly blotted out by Instagram.

So if some drunk wants to follow me around like Johnny No-Mates, he's still sort of on my team.

the woke brigade cant handle people laughing at anyone or having a personal opinion, get used to it

Customers use the term "bargirl" to pretend that they aren't  paying for prostitutes and the usual claim is that they aren't paying for them to have sex, they are paying them to leave the next day .

  Same same, not even different

Sorry, I didn't understand that two different actions could not both be trolling.

No, the aim is for people to give  a personal opinion, rather than just laughing .

Say what you think , rather than just laughing

There is bars in curtain tourist districts where there is alot of prostitutes working as bar girls, but most bars in Thailand, do not have prostitutes.

But thats another discussion, I just wanted to highlight where I would use an laughing emoji because of ignorant posts and replies @Mac Mickmanus

I know, you wrote already: "I can EXPLAIN it to you, but I can't UNDERSTAND it for you."

But would you mind trying to explain it. Because personally I just can't see the problem.

Sometimes I laugh because it is a funny joke.

Sometimes I laugh like: Does he really believe that?

And sometimes I laugh because the alternative would be to cry.

Now I also feel like crying about this $#$@ but I still try to laugh about it. Because it is not important.

But I still wonder: What is the problem?

Are there really people out there who are offended if people click on a laugh-icon?

I mean it's not like they are in the middle of the bar and drop their pants and all girls start to laugh. I understand that would be a little embarrassing.

But sitting in front of a computer and getting triggered because others clicked on an icon? Really?

I guess, someone likes to go to court to fight this icon, as felt it as it "hurt his feelings"

Therefor the simple deletion of the icon is a fact.

I also used it sometimes when it was funny comment.

Is is amazing what is happening today.

there was a female singer on tv about sexual harassment.

Yes, she also noticed it. So question was what.

And she answered: a man told me i was looking good

In the old days, that was a compliment.

I dont get it.

It seems possible in online games to rape a virtual person, now that is also sexual harassment ! Why you make the game like that? Guess it will be over now.

Next will be a Australian guy, who is playing with a doll. Sexual harassment to the doll, as she can not speak for her self.

Some more serious

Prime minister of "my"country was furious when MH17 was shot down.

Some time later he gave the permission to bomb a terrorist in Syria and killed an additional 70 innocent people with the terrorist, not to mention more people injured with that bombing.

So icon gone, no court.

Good, it was being abused to troll members. 99.99% of them weren't in response to a joke or sarcasm.

Ohhhh somebody hurt your feelings?

How was it ?

Did you manage to survive OK ?

Did the woke people cancel you or did you manage to to continue living a normal life ?

How did it effect your life and well being ?

Some posters seem very concerned that their laugh button has been taken away from them

....whilst some people got very concerned that people clicked on it sometime. Did it detract from living a normal life? Weird.

A bit sad though, as it was a lot cheaper than buying half a dozen of "Bia Singh" and then get stitched up after the bar fight.

Your post deserves a thumbs up and a laugh emoji.  Is there a laugh with you emoji as opposed to a laugh at you?
