Car falls from parking building in Bangkok Rama 4, injures one man

Jor Sor 100 reported a pickup truck incident in Bangkok. A car fall down from a parking building on Rama 4 Road. One man was injured. 

 

Pol. Lt. Col. Sarawut Tangjairak, investigative inspector The Thung Maha Mek Police Station said that the said pickup truck, registered OT-7726, Bangkok, fell from the second floor of the parking building at a height of  2 meters.

The driver admitted that at the time of the incident, he was in the process of collecting things in the car.

 

The driver missed the accelerator pedal causing the car to reverse, hit the railing and fell from the 2nd floor down to the 1st floor. Rescuers took the injured to Theptarin Hospital.

I must admit I often reverse until I tap the raised kerb in many car parks... then I know I am as far in as I can be......

I suggest this driver did not miss the accelerator pedal as written!

That doesn't make sense.

 

1. If he missed the accelerator, the car wouldn't go anywhere.

2. it would have to be in reverse.

3. The handbrake would have to be off.

Once again we witness the amazing skills of Thai drivers.....unfortunately, he didn't get the prize for best fall....he needed to go head first to claim that!

Surely there should be regulations and standards in place for parking garage railings/barriers.

 

Looking at the pics it seems those railings could be better designed and constructed to stop a motor vehicle impact, just as barriers on a highway are.

This would seem to me that he had his head below the windscreen picking something up from the floor of the car, the car was still in reverse and when he realized he jammed his foot on the accelerator insted of the brake in his haste.

That sounds about right. If he had been going really slow the back wheels would have dropped and the car would have stopped with the wheels hanging over the edge.

I assumed they mean mistook the accelerator for the brake. It's an easy thing to do if you're a Thai driver. 90% of the traffic on Thai raod has drivers who have the same problem. The same number seem to have Red Green colour blindness when tt comes to traffic lights too.

Maybe because its Thailand and I’m in Thailand, but I read of this occurrence more in Thailand than I do in the UK... (similar sized countries)......

I can believe the driver was trying to back into the parking space, but at some speed.  He even went over the bump blocks that you can see in the photo
