Thaksin back in Thailand on May 16th - calls for a landslide election victory to get country out of a "black hole"

What a farce, it’s Thailand, it’s a junta and elections are a moot point. If by some chance his daughter gets voted in there will just be another coup. Sometimes reality is sad, but it’s reality nonetheless.

Could also be that Thaksin woke up with a head ache and he decided to

rattle some ones chain.

He knows it works.

I don't know what orders have been given. All I know is that Thaksin will not return unless some sort of deal has been made.

The catch is that 2 days after the election we will not know who is running the country.  First you have to <deleted> the ballots.

then you have the fight for non voted seats

then you have the court challenges.

Then you have the house and senate appoint Prawit as Prime Minister as a way to send Thaksin packing

I think even FF would vote for Prawit if it was a choice between PT letting Tony back in or Prawit.  Heck, even Prayut, if his party wins enough seats, would be better thatn Thaksin and all the chaos.than

Which ever way this goes I don't think it's going to be good. IMO a period of instabilty awaits and as usual the elephant in the room is the army and the senate.

very true...whoever wins the other side will make troubles

you forgot, it will be a multi party coalition so the negotiations need a long time.

why not as he and his sister were both illegally ousted from power. Not sure black hole is still in use there days.

they were legally ousted from power.....as the winner writes the book of history and in this case they wrote that into the constitution.
But beside that: Thailand was on the brink of a civil war with already injured and death people + massive economic damage.
Specially in the coup against his sister, Prayut tried till the last minute to negotiate a peaceful solution. Which would have been the PM to visit the king and telling that she is unable to govern the country and ask for an emergency government. They hoped that than the king would call in a temporary government from bureaucracy and retired respected people which pacify the country and call for new elections.
The government rejected that. The alternative would have been civil war with all the tourism goes down to nothing. There was already talks that the complete South declares itself an independend country, under the king but not under Bangkok rule.
There was also already a tax boycott many companies didn't pay taxes anymore and revenue department did not enforce anything anymore.

He is pushing for his party to win so he and his daughter can get pardons and can return home and take power again .

Looking at the election posters, it seems his daughter is the hottest candidate by a landslide. Dunno if that would help getting votes. Of course she also promises to double the minimum wage, so that might help a bit more.

Then again, my Thai ain't great, but it seems other candidates make similar promises.

Rather Thaksin,  than shi_te coup d'etat Jaunta who seized power from landslide Victory off Thai people who voted  Thaksin in ! No doubt selling his mobile phone company in Singapore start of his downfall tax evasion while being PM & Building buddha in his own image Chang mai & reported sitting on Thai Royal Throne unsure if " true or rumours however its  Thaksin we are talking about & possible ! l'm sure would not gone down well with Rama 9 or Military  understandably ! Thai military only need 1 excuse for repeating coup d'etat it's Thai military national sport ! Well Known Thaksin was planing to try & separate military from Thai Government common in most free democratic countries ! inadvertently separating Government from military would hurt military top Brass arms deals kick ???????? slightly .. If " They or his affiliated party win upcoming election he'll be back & sis No doubt ! Good possiblity Thaksin may be up for assassination & destabilise the country & giving Thai military Jaunta ammo seize power all over again ! beat goes on & on in Thailand more coup d'etat in Thailand since end of ww2 than any other country on ???? ???? just ranting thought ???? ????????????

I heard it differently.

I didn't claim that the current lot were any better, just that to suggest that Thaksin coming back signals the return of democracy, law and order, and human rights to Thailand is pretty far-fetched.

Who has signaled that?

yes but shooting random people is not an solution that makes everything worse. drug addiction is not something you can fix with bullets

Whether it’s drug addiction nor drug related murders and crimes has to be fixed. 80% of the overcrowded prisons are drug related. Post coup government  investigation of Thaksin’s war on drugs didn’t come to any conclusion but there were extra judiciary killings by rogue policemen. Drug dealers are killing lots of people and should be severely punished. In some countries, it’s capital punishment.

Hopefully Prayut, Prawit and all the other illegal coup makers will be in the adjacent call.
