Come on Guys it is not funny you could have been on that boat.

as with many road accidents, it looks like excessive speed was involved.

love the way the boat operator 's name is pixelated...

And these Russians thought a vacation in Thailand would be safer than one in Crimea.

There we go again, unbelievable.

The accidents on the water go the same way as on the road.

But what can you expect, it's the same drivers as on the road, and the "mai pen rai" mentality, all no sense of responsibility.

Thirty tourists, most of them Russian, have been injured after the tour boat they were travelling on crashed into a concrete pillar/navigation marker approaching Chalong Pier in the south of Phuket. According to a number of media reports, one person is still missing following the incident which happened at around 5.30pm yesterday, May 17.

There were over 33 people on board when the Thanathip Marine speedboat hit a channel marker in Chalong Bay as it was bringing tourists back from a trip to the Phi Phi islands (about a 45 minute journey). Provincial marine chief Nachapong Pranit says that in addition to the tourists and the boat driver, the driver’s assistant and a tour guide were also on board.

According to a Bangkok Post report, around 10 people sustained broken limbs, including the boat driver. At least 2 passengers were reported to be seriously injured. Emergency workers and over a dozen ambulances arrived at Chalong Pier to transport the injured to several hospitals on the island.

The boat is insured to cover medical expenses of up to 15,000 baht for each case.

You don't get a lot for 15,000 baht. I hope the company has deep pockets.

5:30pm? There was enough daylight. How irresponsible (stupid) someone have to be, to drive a boat with 33 passengers in daylight, full throttle into concrete pillars.

With a curve in it.

The speed limit there is 4klph, no look out on a tourist boat, safe and trusted Thailand.

If he would have gone full throttle there would have been a lot more damage.

Are you sure about that speed limit?

Is the one missing the captain?

Road equivalent truck driver fled the scene!

Unfortunately I don't think so, the captain normally stay at the back side of the ship.

The captain was taken to hospital, so not the missing person. The captain though will normally be behind the wheel, which is not at the back.

A boatboy being the missing person seems likely.

Those wet waterways bring bad luck - make sure you buy an amulet if driving tourists around in a boat!

No, the damage looks consistent with full speed on that type of watercraft.
