Violence is possible, but there will be no civil war.

 

Nations don’t go to war over whether they like or hate specific leaders. They go to war over the ideologies, religions, racism, social classes or economic policies these leaders represent.

 

But Trump represents nothing other than his own grievance with a system that refused him a second term and is now beginning to hold him accountable for violating the law.

 

In addition, the guardrails that protected American democracy after the 2020 election – the courts, state election officials, the military, and the justice department – are stronger than before Trump tested them the first time.

Well of course there isn't going to be a civil war over this.  Trump doesn't have that kind of reach.  His supporters certainly have a right to protest to their heart's content.  But if they break the law, they will be arrested.  Some might even be stupid enough to resort to violence.  I believe law enforcement will be ready.  Like they were in Cincinnati.

This. Many of the Jan 6 perps and other violent criminals who committed race crimes believed their actions would instigate a civil war.

In terms of the recent legal issues, Chris Christie and Niki Hayley are making it clear how they feel about Trump not securing sensitive documents, and others are muted or hedging their bets.

There is still a lot of noise from Republican voters about it but not much actually defending him on what he specifically did except from the more extreme. As the facts come out I think it will take the wind out of the sails of broad Republican outrage and Trump will begin to look more and more reckless and silly and guilty. See if he gets much of a protest tomorrow.  

I think the public deserve to have this trial finalized before the election season. Riots and civil unrest are the main risks of not doing so.

He might think that, but plenty of dems own guns. They just don't make it part of their personality. Gun ownership in the US is 1,200 guns per 1,000 people. That's also more than twice as much as the next country. It's ridiculous.

Don't underestimate the lack of intelligence of the "Trump MAGA Cult".  They rioted at 6 Jan and I wouldn't be surprised if they committed the same sort of nonsense if Trump were convicted of these charges.  

There will be no civil war because the red states cling frantically to the posterior's of the blue states economic might to even keep their lights on -sniffing happily away, hoping that a quarter (again) somehow falls out of the hole for them.

Regardless of their zeal, there must be some of them who are aware of how the 1/6 seditionists were rounded up:  none were arrested until they were well away via cell phone logs and facial recognition, and good old snitching.  Not to mention the ones that posed for pics, recorded themselves and posted on the net (who can forget that boasting jackass at Pelosi's desk?).   Add to this that the boss didn't save any of them.
