Popular Post webfact
FORMER MP and graft-buster Chuwit Kamolvisit said today (July 27) that a super deal was stuck in Hong Kong on Tuesday between former prime minister/de facto Pheu Thai Party boss Thaksin Shinawatra and some politicians who had gone there to meet him, Sanook.com said. At a press conference entitled “Why is Thaksin returning home?” Chuwit alleged that the meeting took place at Peninsular Hotel, Kowloon, Hong Kong, during which it was agreed that the third House/senate meeting to vote for a prime minister would be just to show the people that Pheu Thai and Move Forward parties can no longer go any further in forming a majority government. Thaksin’s daughter Paetongtarn Shinawatra confirmed in a Facebook post yesterday, which was his 74th birthday, that her father will be returning home after 17 years of self-exile overseas on August 10. Chuwit is certain that Thailand will get its new prime minister at the fourth House/senate meeting with this to take place before August 15. by TNR Staff Top Photo: Thai Rath: Former MP and graft-buster Chuwit Kamolvisit at today’s press conference. Popular Post OneMoreFarang
The important parts are in the linked article. Chuwit is in general well informed, let's look if what he says will happen. And then, let's look what happens if Thaksin comes back. In the moment there is hope in Thailand for a brighter future. Will the future still be bright with the fugitive criminal returning? And can anybody imagine Thaksin being quiet and just living the life of a grandfather? I still hope he dies in the desert. 5 12 2 8 2

Popular Post Denim
Pretty ironic that those who overthrew Thaksin will now apparently acquiesce to his return as he now seems like the lesser of two evils. As for the scenario of Prawit somehow getting into bed with Paetongtarn ...... mucho gross scenario. Any way you look at it , the electorate are going to get peed upon from a great height. Thailand must be one of the few countries where winning popular support from the people in an election more or less guarentees you will not get to govern or have much say in things. In addition , it sends a red flag to the conservatives that here is a party that needs to be suppressed by the courts. Popular Post Kerryd
Can't say too much because Thailand has no "free speech" laws. Quite the opposite in fact. Even if you speak the truth about someone, backed up with facts and indisputable evidence, you can still be sued for defamation. That and the lese majesty laws have kept most of the rich from facing any real punishment for their deeds for decades. And the mighty military government has done nothing to change that. Then again, by the time you reach General rank, you are more likely to be a part of the problem and not the solution to it so it pretty much was to be expected that they wouldn't actually change anything anyways. 10 2

This was something akin to what I had deduced for myself, as I said earlier, the establishment has had a thousand years of experience in holding on to power, pseudo democracy in Thailand hasn't even had a hundred years. If one looks at the pathetic political performances in America and the UK it's pretty obvious that the establishment is still in power there as well so we should reserve our judgement regarding the pantomime happening here. I regard Thaksin as being the best of a bad bunch, certainly he is a rogue but at least he did something for the poor even if it was calculated to hold on to power rather than out of genuine concern. Self enrichment? Well who here is so pure as to throw the first stone? Thaksin's return will happen, it will draw the teeth of the red shirts and prevent mayhem on the streets, a play book written by experts. Pita is a confused virgin who has wandered into a brothel by comparison. 5 1 2

Popular Post Cabradelmar
Thaskin coming or not coming is a meaningless distraction. But if PT allows a minority party (bhumjaithai) to take the premiership with PT support, then all this election will have accomplished is to alienate (and discard the voice of) 60% of the electorate. Truly pitifully, if true. Anutin is no better than Prayut or Prawit. 3 2

Eric Loh
36 minutes ago, wombat said: that has/will happen/ happened irrespective The ultra conservative 2017 charter drafters ensure this will happened. The never-in-history of Thailand’s constitutions that allowed joint bicameral voting for Prime Minister will guarantee the outcome when junta appointed senators playing the expected spoiler. Any form of coalition will need the PPRP or UTN to influence the senators on voting. It will also be possible that Thailand may be coup free for next 4 years. I hope the new government will made amendment to the highly controversial 2017 constitution. Going back to the 1997 constitution to have both elected houses will be a giant step to give the power back to the people.
shackleton
A lot of the Thai people still like Thaksin Shinawatra and no doubt a deal has been sorted out before / if he returns to Thailand He is not coming back to go to jail which a few people on here would like to see ???? MFP has too many seats to not be accounted. Any deal with the military backed will mean the death of PT and in some places the end of thaksin s authority. The pardoning of thaksin would be almost as stupid. It will show how in effective the courts are if you are rich It will show that for all thaksin huffing and puffing he is just like the military regime. Nothing that PT is going to do is for the betterment of the country There are going to be some interesting protests. Yellow shirts that oppose thaksin and the orange. First vote sretha defeated. Next vote paetong wins.
