Pattaya, Thailand-Seven people were injured and one person died at the scene after a collision between a speeding motorcyclist and a pick-up truck style vehicle carrying many people in the rear of the truck this morning, August 12th, 2023.

The accident took place at 3:00 A.M. on the Nong Ket Yai Railway Road near Moo 8. Sawang Boriboon Rescue teams, Banglamung Hospital medical staff, and The Pattaya News rushed to the scene after the original urgent notification of the accident.

Seven people were found scattered across the roadway with a variety of injuries and were given urgent treatment by medical staff and taken to local hospitals. One person, the motorcycle rider of a Honda CPR 650, which is also called a “big bike” in Thailand, was killed instantly.

I saw some goon riding wildly on a big bike in Central Pattaya Sunday, midday-1pm. Figured an accident waiting to happen.... kind of wonder if he was still at it 15 hours later. I know The Railway Line Rd quite well, and Nong Khet Yai would be near the North end of it. It is dual carriageway on either side of the tracks, but you see a lot of traffic heading the wrong way. There are quite a few crossings which are unmarked, and right of way is guesswork.  It is also a bad uneven surface where the drains got buried.. that would push a bike at speed around.

The Railway Road AKA The Graveyard; ignored by police every minute of every day, particularly during Rush Hour.

Its even worse when you get to the North end of it.... Hwy 36, known as death allley.

Thinking the road is clear to do what you like and ... Bang !!

Nonthapong, attempted to overtake them but crashed into the truck instead, causing the crash and causing the truck to roll over multiple times.

Rights of way don't seem to exist here. People charge out of what would be termed side roads normally as if they had the precedent and everyone is expected to somehow avoid them. Just introduce a solid white line across the minor road junction point to indicate no right of way. Too much to ask? You don't need a sign even. Or put up an emoji. ???? That might work I guess.

Forget the 'solid white line' and substitute 'solid brick wall'. That will work I guess.

I'm gonna count that as a good happening. Nobody else dead is great.
