The Thai navy, under the command of Navy Chief Adm Choengchai Chomchoengpaet, has confirmed plans to seek governmental approval for the purchase of a Chinese submarine, equipped with a Chinese-made engine.

 

This decision was announced yesterday, following the navy’s agreement to install a CHD620 Chinese engine in the S26T Yuan-class submarine currently being constructed by China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Co (CSOC).

 

The Chinese engine has undergone rigorous inspection and has been approved by the Navy for its safety and efficiency. To further instil confidence in this choice, CSOC has extended the warranty on the submarine engine from two to eight years.

 

This warranty includes coverage for spare parts and the provision of Chinese officials for support during the maintenance of the submarine over this eight-year period, which may also encompass possible upgrades.

If and when this unnecessary piece of junk arrives, it should spend 3 months here undergoing safety checks .Otherwise known as sea trials.

 

That is how long it took for us in OZ, to just get a truck mounted crane ready to meet Australian standards. One major thing were fuel lines splitting from the ferry to our workshop,  and air brake lines being connected to the wrong valves. good luck to all those that dare go to sea in it.

Woo Hoo - a new submarine and it's even got an engine!

On the plus side, by the time this submarine is put into service the Gulf of Siam may be another one meter deeper.

 

This should be made into a Thai serial comedy TV show.

Come hell or high water they are going to purchase these useless subs....The subs only value is its entertainment value..But I do not think thats really worth untold billions of baht...

The mia noi needs a new house.  You didnt think it was coz a sub is needed did you.  

Don't forget to include the engine this time....but that seems to fit the Thai style of business....they will sell you a car here and come later claiming the steering wheel was not included.

 

Just like some farang house developpers in Hua Hin who will sell you and lease the land for the pool villa, accept your absurd requests and only once all is paid, will show up and say that it was not compatible and of course no refund.

That was the burning question several years ago, now you can just put it down to face...

During the height of the covid lockdown madness they were trying to buy 3 subs. I guess 1 is an improvement on 3  take the positives where you can.

I think I would insist on pay on delivery and only after full QC check with any these dodgy Chinese subs

I think they need 2 subs….need second one to rescue sailors stuck in first one.

No doubt it will join it's look-a-like brother in due course.

So the Germans remained firm with their "Njyet" on supplying German engines to China - good so. 

I just wonder now, to what extend Navy Chief Adm Choengchai Chomchoengpaet will benefit of the whole joke. Thailand and submarines - what an unbelievably good flop. Unless the commissioning of the deal is excellent ......... as the French say "on vera" ???? 

Maybe they should buy Srettha a VIP plane for government travels?

All of the Germans I have spoken with use the word 'nein' to say no. 'Nyet' is a word people say with a Russian accent to say 'no', and of course the word is written using the Russian alphabet. There is no 'j' in the official transliteration of 'nyet'. Maybe it is from some other language or a German dialect?

It will break down, or be broken, during those trials, and, if salvaged, spend the next twenty years propping up a jetty.

Revealing about the qualifications of this PM. He should have said weeks ago  "freeze it, at least until I have worked out a budget".

I speak German fluently and the phonetics for the Russian "нет" reads - applying German phonetics - as "Njyet". Leaving the "j" out is not a game changer though ...... согласованный?
