I've heard people say that many (though not all) Thai women prefer East Asian men (ethnic Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Filipino) over Farang/Caucasian/white men if they could have the choice.

Particularly the lighter-skinned or more dollish-looking Thai women, maybe from the North Lanna area or Bangkok, rather than darker Isan women.

 

How true is this?

To me, old, wrinkly balding Asian and Farang men are all just old, wrinkly balding men.

Young Asian and Farang men both look pretty good. Cute boy bands are just cute boy bands.

 

The language gap is the same whether the guy is Asian or Farang.

Other Asians also don't get the weird nuances of Thai culture and social interactions.

 

No racism towards Asians, Thais, or Farangs alike meant here. Definitely don't mean to hurt any feelings.

I've heard this as well and it seems there is an explanation.  Firstly, most Thai women would prefer a Thai man due to simple cultural compatibility, language, and basic normalcy.  But if they were to venture out to date foreigners, a lot of it would have to do with what media they're consuming.  I understand that Korean soaps and movies are hugely popular right now.  That being the case, some Thai women may prefer Korean men because of what they see in media.  And yeah, Chinese and Japanese men have always been popular due to their light skin.  But fret not, there are always going to be Thai women who think all farangs are rich and can save them from their lot in life.....555

It's because they don't like to think the women are choosing the guys with the most money.

They prefer Thai men over Falang.  And, generally prefer other Asian men especially working girls because they pay more for their company.

How much they seem to be willing to spend or how wealthy they might appear will trump ‘race' considerations every time

No. Asian men older men are in better shape. Also much cleaner and less sweaty. They also won't crush a fragile Thai woman in a sex position.

Generally obviously they prefer thai men, but they have downsides so in the end money wins if the woman needs it

Like any other country, most Thai women prefer Thai men for love. Obvious reasons - familiar, shared culture, language, etc.

 

There are some (many) who prefer falang or Asian men for love, there are also others who prefer Arab, black, and even those who prefer Indians. It really depends on the girl, her past experiences with men (good or bad), and what kind of interests she has (k-pop and k-drama vs American TV for example). Physically speaking a girl who likes tall/big is more likely to date falang than Asian, and a girl who hurts if your equipment is too large will prefer Asians...

 

And then we go to the category of women who are interested in money, not love. They're going to pick whoever is most available to them and willing to spend the most. For example a fat girl would aim for Arab or Indian because statistically more of them prefer curves over skinny - minimizing her chances of wasting time and maximizing earning potential. A skinny girl wouldn't bother with them and go for Asian or falang. If you had to specifically compare the two I think when it comes down to it it's more about the money and who's willing to pay the most (hint: usually the Asians pay more or at least put on a good show of being big spenders).

 

Last but not least- what was the saying? Koreans are 555 or something like that? 5 minutes, 5 inches, 5000... That's what the Insanity girls used to say when the club was still around. One night as I was walking on soi 11 heard a girl loudly announcing "you give me 5000!" to the Korean taking her home.

Some Asian men can be really tall and strong. But I guess they all get snatched up pretty quickly back home.

And the ones that grow up in Farang countries are often Farang sized.

That's my point.

They have nothing in common with each other, and with Thais.

But some Thai women still prefer them over guys from other continents?

It maybe a harsh wake-up call for some, but the Thai's in general consider "falangs" and other "foreigners" the same.

 

Some europeans, brits, aussies etc. think they are superior to the other foreigners say from the Middle East, India, Indonesia South America etc. But that is wrong as a falang and foreigner remain a foreigner in Thailand and are looked the same way. They both will need to do their 90 day reporting, no matter what their skin colour.

 

A rich indian with money will definately get more respect in Thailand then some  arrogant and broke european thinking no end of himself because of some absurd and outdated perceptions of light skin colour. The only colour would be attracted to,  like many places else in the world,  is the colour of money and good looks.

 

Thai women at the end of the day could be more inclined to prefer a Thai man or a Asian man, then to have a relationship with some overweight european or american thinking he is Robert Redford just due to the current good exchange rate !

 

Then again no hard feelings as this is in general and absolutely not a generalisation. Naturally, many will come up with "mine's different". ????

The old saying 'saam saam saam' with Japanese is for a reason. 3cm, 3 minutes, 3k baht. Chinese easily pay 5k even. Guess that is why we don't see the hot looking girls in the western bars anymore too.

I always remind myself of the golden universal mantra of intelligence,

 

Never judge by race or colour or similar. Get to know the person, chat a bit and then get your opinion.

 

I have have great interactions, relations with Indians or Chinese who once I got to know them, they were the nicest, polite and most  decent people I ever met (and were rich too .-) .

 

You will have horrible, uncouth, rude, ugly and unreliable people from any country, should they be black, white, green or whatever.

Mileage varies and there is a whole spectrum of preferences and reasons for those preferences...  This is definitely one of those subjects where we can shoe horn generalisations into a convenient pigeon-hole.... 

 

I know women from financially independent backgrounds who could be with wealthy Thai guys of their own age... they are with their foreign husband.

 

Educated, financially independent Thai women are happy to meet someone of similar socio-economic status... of course, there are loads of Thai men to compete with - if a Westerner has game this is no issue - I know of many such relationships.

 

 

When language & communication is difficult and cultural boundaries are less flexible I'd imagine a Thai female would prefer a Thai male, financial insecurity will then influence her decision to step outside of a comfort zone and perhaps ultimately find herself in a comfortable situation (or not).

Because they're repeating a stereotype and generalisation.

 

The reality is different... Females from Wealthy Thai backgrounds like anywhere have plenty of choice, and do date and marry men from from all cultures and races - That said, doing so may be less common for a couple of obvious reasons.

- There are more Thai guys for Thai women to meet in Thailand .

- There is family pressure to marry within their own culture.

- Cultural understanding is easier.

 

 

What distorts a lot of opinion is those basing their observations on financial disparity where a female is making a choice out of necessity rather than actual preference.

Believe me in top circles of society, hot attractive girls are with many Asians or Indians. All depends in which circles you are peeking.  Have seen quite many indians come to Thailand with very attractive indian ladies. Why would they care for the local hookers.? It's only the loosers from anywhere say India, UK, US, Australia, China, Europe, who need to pay for having female company.

Demographics of guys shopping around for girlfriends from Western countries vs other countries tend to be different: Western guys tend to be older, maybe have more income while Asian, South Asian, other ASEAN countries, Middle East, Africa seem to be younger, still working age.

 

Key factor in the girl's decision may be where they're likely to end up after marriage. If in Thailand, Thai woman may feel someone from Asian background would blend in better back in village or in town while a Caucasian hubby might carry more of a stigma as ex-bar girl, no matter what story was concocted to dispel this notion.

 

If it's a 'Take Me Out of Thailand' situation, final destination might weigh heavily in the decision making process, depending on the sophistication and worldliness of the girl. If the girl's goal is to get out of Thailand, then a move to Seattle or London with an older white guy is going to be more attractive than a younger wealthier Indian, ASEAN or Arab boyfriend who is proposing a relocation to say, New Delhi, Phnom Penn or perhaps Cairo.

I've noticed that too.

 

Western boomers tend to be the wealthiest generation. They make fun of broke millennials.

 

In Asian countries, which are emerging economies, millennials and Gen Y are often much better off than their parents.

 

The size of the man's wallet is really all that matters to many Thai women.

I have noticed Thai women tend to gravitate towards white skins. They associate dark skins with working in the rice fields, i.e. low class. I can remember a quite wealthy Indian guy complaining about how Thai women disrespected him.

I've found Thai ladies have no idea how to estimate a western guys wealth.

My experience is with bargirls. 90% have Thai boyfriends. If they have hooked a Farang, they may still keep their Thai boyfriend on the side.

 

Of the remaining 10%, some go with Tomboys, the rest are asexual (mostly due to overload from working abroad).

 

So, for bargirls, by far their preference is Thai. Customers and sponsors are only acceptable as far as they have cash.
