Thai police apprehended a Danish man in Koh Samui, an island in the southern province of Surat Thani yesterday, for his illegal possession of firearms.

Following the strict measures implemented after the shooting at Siam Paragon mall in Bangkok, Thai police yesterday, October 10, conducted an investigation into owners of firearms both legal and illegal across the country and discovered a Danish man in Koh Samui ordering guns online.

Officers from the Immigration Bureau, Tourist Police, Bor Phud Police Station, and Provincial Police Region 8 secured an arrest warrant from the Thaiad Courts and proceeded to raid the foreigner’s residence in Soi Khao Phra in the Koh Samui district.

Officers discovered and confiscated three pistols, one shotgun, and hundreds of bullets in the house. The Danish man admitted to his illegal ownership of the firearms. He claimed that he had a fervour for guns and was keen on building his collection. So, he ordered all the firearms and bullets online. Officers did not disclose whether the online stores were based in Thailand or abroad.

The Danish man may face imprisonment for up to 10 years, a fine of up to 20,000 baht, or both for possessing a gun without permission according to Section 7 of the Act on Firearms, Ammunition, Explosive, Fireworks, and Imitation Firearm.

I wonder why police left these online sellers in operation before when it seems so easy to track them down and their customers.

Samui Island – A Swedish “businessman” was found with eight guns and more than 200 bullets at a house on Samui Island, say Thai police.

On Tuesday (October 10th) a team from the Royal Thai Immigration Bureau with a search warrant searched a house which belonged to a foreigner they identified only as MR. ADAM, 33, a Swedish national in Soi Khao Phra, Bo Phut sub-district. Police found six handguns, two rifles, and more than 200 bullets. He was then taken to the Bo Phut Police Station.

Mr. Adam reportedly admitted to Thai police that he likes to collect guns and enjoys shooting. He said he ordered the guns and bullets online and some guns were borrowed from his friends.

Surely if the online stores were overseas, the firearms and ammo would need to come thru customs?

A Businessman that loves too shoot guns???  That's the best he coud come up with!  With tatoos up to his neck and guns galore, I wonder who his clients are. Let me guess Ericcson Telecommunications.

Do many "Swedish Businessmen" have full sleeves of tattoos on both arms. I would say he is going for the "tough from Prison" look, rather than a "businessman from Sweden" look, unless I am very wrong about Sweden!? Many tattoos and many guns, what business would that be?

Probably a few more foreigners who have done the same as this guy will now be sweating  especially after the Siam Mall shooting with checks now being carried out ????

Well, if you spend time in Hua Hin just like I did, you would not make any difference between a Dane, a Swede, a Finn or a Norwegian either...

They behave the same, namely the same s***, and s*** smells the same way, no matter who pooed...

Obviously, the same fine applies to Thais who are caught in possession.   The foreigners who are not caught in possession face the same fine as those "thousands of Thais" that you reference who are also not apprehended.

I would say not. Soldier kills 30 and police officer kill KG children, a 14-year-old THAI teenager. kills 2 tourists and wounds several Thais. But the police arrest a FOREIGNER for illegal gun possession. Plus I was only reading yesterday on FB an advertisement selling guns in Thailand. Didn't say if deactivated or not. The 14-year-old killed using a deactivated weapon that had been reactivated. Blame the FOREIGNER TIME AGAIN.

Maybe because RTP's jurisdiction stops at the borders of Thailand.

Where did you get that "information" from?  How much was this Swede fined?

The arrest of a foreigner was reported here because this is mainly an expat forum...no reason to report Thais in the same position here* nor to assume that no Thais are arrested for illegal gun possession.

Edit: * Apart from the Thai reported here also!

From one of the linked articles:

The Surat Thani Immigration Chief Colonel Suppakorn Pankosol stated to the Thai press, “We found that these guns and bullets were ordered online from the northeast of Thailand. Mr. Adam used these guns to practice shooting at a shooting range on Samui Island. He also posted on social media that he likes to collect guns. Many of his online posts also seemed to threaten other foreigners. Mr. Adam has fitness businesses and has stayed in Thailand for a long time.”

I suspect 'Mr Adam' may be in for an extended stay in Thailand, but perhaps in less enjoyable surroundings. <deleted>.
