I've stopped looking for rooms in that price. Treat yourself, don't cheat yourself.

Ive not found 1500 baht rooms much different to 750 baht rooms

600 baht is a good room most of the time

If 750 baht is nothing to you then give 750 baht tips in restaurants

750 a day is chump change.

Clean, big bed, working aircon and plumbing - that's it.

I book for one night only. If it's good, I extend. If not, I move on.

I don't believe in wasting money unnecessarily. It's why I will die solvent.

Most Ive paid in years is 1100 baht. That was a deluxe villa.

I paid 1200 baht in Udon Thani, we were caught in a deluge so it was any port in a storm. Excellent full breakfast included, room the equivalent of a Sheraton or Hilton.

Sounds like a bargain!

It was during low season, pre-COVID. I got used to pulling into good hotels with 50 - 500 rooms, and only seeing two or three vehicles in the car park.

It isn't, but bookings less than 30 days through the platform are illegal

More misinformation.

Illegality is about the owner having a licence or not.

You know very well that 90%  of AirBnB renters don't have a licence

When I get to the payment stage, the cost has suddenly inflated to over 1500 baht.

Various add-ons, just like the airlines.

Included is a cleaning cost of 750 baht.

The hotel management presumably pays a maid 300-400 baht a day to clean 10-20 rooms.

These clowns must think every guest came down in the last shower.

You should be aware that Agoda lists private properties and certain fees come under the owner. Quite possible the owner has mistakenly set the fee at weekly rather than nightly.

In all the years I have been using Agoda I have never seen a cleaning fee on an Agoda accommodation, standard practice on the likes of Airbnb.

You could have tried to cross check the resort with another listing such as Booking.com

You may be right, it could be a weekly fee. I doubt that would have changed anything if I had finalized the booking.

I've come across extra fees, including cleaning, in other Agoda searches, so it's not an isolated instance.

Always watch how those hotel reservation websites cheat with crooked practices.

Depending on the time of the day you reserve, depending on the computer you have (the algorithm of the site can detect if a Mac or a PC), depending on the country and the area where you are, the price can double. Call the hotel directly and negociate a deal. It often works.

Avoid also those houses with private pools in developpments.

Often they overcharge and are not very conveniently located or close to the beach. You will have to take a taxi to reach town for your meals and get scammed again.  Choose a place that is close to the main commercial and entertainment areas and check it out on Google maps before.

Hotels have contracts with Booking sites are you talking 50 years ago , every hotel I go to , they tell you sit in lobby and book the night , they can’t undercut bookin sites Geezus boomer

Booking and Agoda same company , just use google and will tell you all the prices on every site

Chatting to a guy on the Pattaya bus who had booked a hotel in Bangkok on Agoda.... when he arrived it wasn't there, had not been there  or open for 3 years,  yet still taking bookings on that platform. That said, I had just left a nice hotel I had booked on that same platform and everything was fine.  Coincidentally, my place was over 2000 all in, with breakfast, his a bargain price.

Sounds bs

Used to be a fan of hotels.com because you got one night free for 10 booked and they price match so you can get cheap price and a further 1/11th off price.  But Agoda is now consistently significantly cheaper and never have add ons to price at final stage.

Tip I have given before is start with a comparison site and then Agoda have a cheaper price rather than going direct.

Don't use Agoda. Their listed price is NEVER the final price.

Sure it is ????

As far as I know staying in condominiums for less than 30 days is illegal - it doesn't matter how it is booked.

It is not illegal to stay in a condo under 30 days although it may be illegal but is almost completely unenforced to own and rent out a condominium for under 30 days.

So using Airbnb to find a place to stay for any period of time is completely and absolutely legal.

Using Airbnb to find people to stay in your property may be illegal, but it is not enforced.

I know many people have had positive experiences with Agoda but I now refuse them. I was cheated and lied to by them and not the hotel.
