I had to sit and listen to a middle aged Filipino guy last night at work tell other colleagues what a great country the Philippines is and especially under its new leader Marcos .

 

Oh he the best ,said Ramos ,my Filipino work colleague

 

Yes I said , "his father Marcos plundered the country, 

 

I sat there patient  until he told them it was "even better than Thailand! Even better he said to my 3 other colleagues who was listening attentive at Ramos exciting news that his country is nearly number 1 in Asia for global  business 

 

So I had to be direct with him, " the Philippines is absolutely in the <deleted> infrastructure compared to every other Asian country,even India has a modern public transport system better than Manila !

 

Another one with a shocked look on his face and I told him how I had been there and rubbish strewn around , people peeing openly on the streets, ,beggars bothering me , how everyone in Manila I saw had scowls on their faces 

 

"Better than Thailand" he said ,your  joking right I said to him in front of others 

 

Here is a country that has never moved with the times , it had its opportunity to become a modern city but never progressed 

 

Too many people it's  problem., overpopulation , and too many followers 

 

And these people and I don't care if I sound racist they are followers not leaders !

 

Even in Australia they will kiss the bosses 🍑, they are "yes sir' people , yes bossy ,yes bossy ,how high you want me to jump bossy

Get back to work, mop those floors.

I met a Philipino guy in his 70s ie from the Marcos era. He tried to overthrow the local mayor way back in the day and they hired hitmen to take him out, so he had to escape to farangland to stay alive. And he bragged about owning a gun. 

 

Just watched a video on Youtube by a farang living in Dumugete. He claims a lot of farangs are behaving badly there ie he showed a video of 2 farangs fighting in the street. 

 

I've exhausted my Philippines anecdotes.

The Philippines brand of Catholicism relies 100% on keeping the poor (90% of the population) in a state of profound and utter ignorance. It's simply feudal. Ever see a padre out on the street in Philippines? I never did once. Nuns you might see. But the rotten corrupt catholic church... What hope is there?

Basically none where there is a religion of any sort.......the single biggest crime committed on a daily basis is allowing religious schools to indoctrinate young minds.

Live in the Philippines and if you're British, your state pension is not frozen.. Maybe the only benefit!

I saw this last year , seems also to be these Pentecostal churches there too 

They claim to be religious people but will stab you in the back 

 

Back in the days when I was at school, a Catholic Grammar Schol in North London UK. I was not indoctrinated, but told all sorts of nonsense about God and Jesus and how they would always be there to help those that believed.   Utter nonsense. Nobody was or now is ever there.  That applies to all the other "Gods" of other religions too. . PEOPLE  Stop being so gullible! Think for yourselves!

God helps those .....who help themselves😉

 

Many people are proud of the countries they live in.  They accept the good with the bad.  Some people live in countries with bad governments .  But the people still maintain their pride and dignity.  
Unlike some people that blame their personal misfortunes on their countries and everything else in life.

Yes, it's true. I never met a Filipino/Filipina who complained about their lot in life. They just got on with it. 10 kids and still smiling. When I asked them why they continued to have kids, they just laughed and said big families are good! Plus, I guess the absence of contraception might play a part.

If you want to bash the Catholic Church, be my guest.

However, your implied conclusion that the PH population growth is due to their religion is baseless. There are many Catholic countries where population growth is close to zero. There are non-Catholic countries with exponential population growth too, take e.g. Bangladesh or Indonesia.

I think it has more to do with general ignorance of contraception or difficulty to access it, which is strongly correlated with poverty. And the belief that parents who have large families will be taken care of by them in their old age.

I like some of the people. And some of the women are lovely. But, otherwise the entire country reminds me of a mix of a huge Tijuana, and the Bombay slums.

West London. 2003. My son and at least 4 friends' children were born. They were Philipina and Italian Catholic. They went to church every Sunday until their kids got places in good Catholic schools. They never went afterwards. Lucky enough my half English/Thai son went to a local CofE primary school nearest catchment so no need to pretend to be religious.
