Something occurred to me recently: you never see older ladyboys? What happens to them? do they just decide not to be one anymore.

You never see any older transgender people. They seem to just disappear after about 35. Surely if that was, as is often claimed "not a choice," then they would continue in that persona, presumably forever.

I know in other countries some do, but I am just making an observation as to Thailand and mature ladyboys just do not exist, or do they ?

My theory is once they are no longer slim or cute, they simply stop with the make-up, lady clothes, etc.

There's one older (40ish) ex LB that lives near me, still has the silicone breasts, but just wears "normal" unisex clothes/shoes, no make-up.

I know one very well as she's 4 doors down from my house in Bangkok, she lives there with her mum. I once asked her if she ever worked as a ladyboy. Her reply was of course not pappa, I'm a good girl. She's around 40yo and dresses more like a guy, jeans with the shirt hanging out.

Let's be happy this is not a Karen country, you would be fined by accidently freaking out and wrongly addressing it in a back soi at night.

I know there are some here and there, I think one works in our local Tesco Customer service desk and I have seen one running a telephone shop locally. But when you consider the amount of ladyboys, like those 30-40 shown in the Pattaya cop shop recently, the number of "young" ladyboys compared to those that are visible later in life is a huge difference, in my opinion.

Do you think they give it up, revert back to being a guy ? All those "show girls and beauty pageant entries, where do they go. yes a very few are on TV, there always a token "gatoey" in most Thai soaps, but again, the numbers generally just dont add up.

The older ones obviously just age like everyone else does.  The ones who are younger many work in bars, massage, freelance.  So they are more popular to see.  The older ones just survive like anyone else that ages.

I think they are emigrating.

Recently caught a Adelaide to Melbourne flight on my way back to Thailand.

6 foot 4 inch LB plonked down next to me.

Conversation was not my preference.🙃🙃

Maybe they tutor young and upcoming ladyboys on the intricacies of being one, I don't know! Surely the new ones don't head straight to Beach Road without some direction from experience!

They change their occupation.

There's one at a gasoline station on Highway 1, out of Chiang Rai.  I suppose pumping fuel is a change from what he/she was doing previously.

I agree that you seldom see older "ladyboys," but just a few days ago, I saw one just in front of me in a line to check out at a Big C. He was with his partner (I assume), who didn't appear to be a "ladyboy." Anyway, he looked like he was certainly over 50 and maybe as old as I am, which is 77. He noticed I was staring at him, so he smiled and said "hello" in English. I smiled and answered him back in Thai, but we didn't have a long conversation.

Anyway, "he" is the only elderly "ladyboy" I recall ever seeing. 🙂

There used to be a famous transgender last nicknamed Ma who was the first fashion model in Thailand to not wear a bra on the catwalk. Later she became a well-known makeup artist. There is life after beauty.

Back to sticky rice land I think, also depends how much money they have not cheap being a Katoey,

I know a couple of them, can have a good laugh with them,

Not so. They stay home with other ageing ladyboy and transgender friends and/or go back to the villages and towns where they grew up. I've seen, even met, a few up here in Issan. Always seem to be comfortably off.
