And what does she propose she will do for the "displaced sex workers" free transport to Phuket, Samui?

  • There is nothing wrong with Pattaya being a destination centered around the sex industry. What is disturbing is the hypocrisy of Thai society. And the unbearable repression of freedom of expression.

  • What? 50% of tourists are sex tourists. Most normal tourists avoid the place.

  • it is what it is

This documentary is currently blocked in Thailand.   there's non so blind as those who don't want to see.

Live with it. There is no bad advertising and this latest example will pour more tourism dollars, euros or pounds into Thailand's tourism coffers. As long as the service providers do it voluntarily (there are alternatives in the hospitality industry everywhere) it seems to be done for the much better cash.
So Marisa from the Sukosol-clan should keep her shirt on and stop on her path of self-profiling herself as the hotel association's president. After all, her mother built an empire with two prime properties in Pattaya and not every guest in their hotels came to Pattaya for second-hand book stores or rare butterflies in the surrounding butterfly farms

But at least they discouraged prostitution by charging a ‘joiner fee’.
If you are going to do it, take it to a ‘short time’ hotel. Keep it private.

Most people across the world would think it is wrong, utterly.

But the only way they could fix it would be to bring in something as big as Disney. It would attract  Indian families, boost domestic demand and offer jobs to young Thai graduates.

Scratch the surface of Disney, that ain't so squeaky clean either.

It's not even a question of the sex tourism reputation. That's a given with Pattaya and Patong. What really stinks and gets decent people angry is the under age trafficking and the official involvement and collusion in it.

Who cares if the documentary is blocked in Thailand. The main thing is the rest of the world gets to see it.

Exactly, they had a black Little Mermaid, how dare they!😁

Marisa owns 3 hotels in Pattaya? I am curious if they allow a visit for the night by a Thai friend or not...

I suppose one section of the tourist visitors might increase - the ups and downs of international tourism figures!

Yes, I would imagine that the video in question might even enhance Pattaya's reputation in some quarters!

Totally fake news. It's been definitively proven (on multiple occasions and via thorough investigation) that prostitution does not exist in any form in Pattaya.

Yes. Yours about needing a tetanus treatment for sex with Indians. Moronic. Insanely racist.

Come on now UjayUjay, it's not 50% of ezzra, it's only 33%, and its not his left leg or his right leg.

lol, the whole world knows that Pattaya, aka Sin City of Thailand, that 99 % of the men and woman are sex buyers/workers 🤣

So, something that everyone already knows can't hurt it more 🤣

You're distracting from the topic. Furthermore, it is not true that almost every German city has “contact centers”. Not every city is like Hamburg or Frankfurt. Hannover is a really big city, but there is not so much happening. A single street with few brothels. Prostitution is prohibited in many cities, in some cities it is only possible outside in commercial areas.

The DW clip also shows many German men, who are in large numbers in Pattaya. So you can't say that DW reports one-sidedly.

"Methinks he doth protest too much", to misquote "Hamlet".

I should think much more than 50%. This fisher village was built on that purpose therefore I thank the US Navy

The level of self-awareness (or simply denial) by Thai authorities is astounding. Pattaya is what it is. Nothing new, nothing changed. It would not be a stretch to image a Thailand, without its sex-datination reputation, losing at least 5-10 million tourist arrivals on any given year. Which is why it will never change.

Concerns are being raised about the potential damage to Thailand’s overall tourism market due to a documentary by German media organisation Deutsche Welle (DW), which highlights Pattaya as a sex tourism destination. This documentary is currently blocked in Thailand.

Marisa Sukosol Nunbhakdi, the president of the Thai Hotels Association (THA), recalls a similar report about sex tourism in Pattaya from Germany around 20 years ago. That incident significantly affected the city’s tourism industry as it resulted in a substantial drop in visitor numbers.

Marisa emphasised the need for improved law enforcement to address the issue of illegal sex workers, a problem that has plagued Pattaya and other Thai destinations for several years.

She also acknowledged that despite Pattaya’s evolution into a destination offering a diverse range of tourist attractions for families and the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) segment, it remains a challenge to fully eradicate the city’s sex tourism reputation.

In addition to her role as THA president, Marisa is the owner of three hotels in Pattaya. She proposed that the local administration and private sector could mitigate the issue by consistently promoting alternative tourism products and attractions to gradually replace the city’s sex tourism, reported Bangkok Post.

Here we are in 2023 and people are still freaked out about sex. And sex just keeps happening! Why, oh why, can't we just stop having sex?! Screw sex!!!

By the way, isn't prostitution legal in Germany? This is the pot calling the kettle black.

If they'll stop having sex in Germany maybe the rest of the world will follow.

Total fake purity nonsense. People know what is available here. The sex industry is rampant all over the world. Thailand is no different. It is just more transparent. In the West it is much further underground. They are not open and notorious, and sitting out in front of massage parlors. They are online, working as expensive escorts. They work massage, they work in the porn industry. They ply their trade on Tinder, as companions. Far less obvious, but it is the same thing. Equal or greater numbers, per capita.

The big difference is the honesty of the Thai women, and the way they go about what they are doing. Far more transparency, and infinitely more delightful. They do not seem to be burdened by copious amounts of guilt or regret. They just do what they have to do, and get on with their lives. For me, that translates into integrity.

Thai women, like all others come in many different shapes and forms. Many are really lovely women, who have the kind of heart, soul, and feminine nature a burned out, overly uber feminized women in the West cannot even conceive of. Same applies to the millions upon millions of SIMPS, and emasculated Western men out there.

Many of us have met bargirls, or massage girls who are very kind, and are doing what they can to help out their families, who have next to nothing. The culture here gives them few alternatives.

The authorities need to start behaving like adults, and come to terms with the industry.

Nothing changes or will ever change here. Look for example at the streets, most are in exactly the bad state as when I came for the first time in 1989

Surely the issue is under-age sex workers and the sex tourists exploiting this. What consenting adults do in Pattaya is otherwise their own business.

Head in the sand much In denial muchThe beautiful, smiling, feminine, dirt poor girls, nightlife and sex scene was the only thing that attracted foreigners here in droves for decades. Still is, but to a slightly lesser extent. This documentary isn't making this stuff up, but Lie-land wants to cover it up.

5 hours ago, it is what it is said:

One of the most ridiculous points about blocking the documentary in Thailand is that foreigners from outside Thailand see it worldwide and if that's their desired attraction it only enhances that appeal to go there. Most Thai's (not the Hookers and Ladyboys) don't go there for the sex industry although they know it goes on and turn a blind eye cos that cash gets sent back home and they can claim little Anong's a secretary and makes good money for the family.

It has little to no affect in distracting tourism because it's known for being sexpat heaven and draws them like Bob to beer. Yeah some families may avoid it but the bulk of those going there aren't really going for the family outings.

I have only been to Pattaya twice and am convinced that if the sex industry is banned , Pattaya will have nothing to offer,
