OP, you obtain a certificate of residence at your immigration office.

Where are you located.

Yes, but should I try to get it on a tourist visa? Want to buy a car badly, but, probably, I have to wait until I get my retirement visa first. Or have I ?

The local immigration will want to proof of your residence, most prefer a monthly bill with your address, like electric, internet, bank, water.  Staying in a hotel on a tourist visa is more likely to get rejected.

I asked where you are located.

If eg Bangkok you will not be able to obtain a COR.

CW would require a TM47 to have been filed and on tourist visa or visa exempt that would not be possible.

In some provinces a TM30 with lease might be sufficient.

I've bought many vehicles over the years on a tourist visa.

CofR just need address, I used the house blue book

The certificate is only as good as your visa, it will expire with visa.

But your name cannot be on a BLUE housebook. Only for Thais.

I never said my name was in the blue book.

BTW, if you have PR a foreigner can have their name in house blue book

So you say you got a C of R using any Blue Book which does not have your name or any reference to you, assuming that YOU do not have a PR.

Where did I say 'any blue book'.

It was the house blue book, the house that I bought and I live.

I've got many house and condo blue books, for my CofR I use the blue book where I live.

What's your problem?

No problem. I simply was under the impression that a foreigner cannot be in a Blue Book. I was obviously wrong, sorry.

The IO is only interested in proof of address.

Your house blue book (without your name) can be used for your CofR.

Confused as to how a Blue Book, without your name, can be used as proof of your address.

Yes, I noticed by your replies that you have been a little confused but try not to over think it.

It is accepted, they just require a physical address, the address is printed in your blue book.

So a (any) blue book with an address and not having the farang's name is acceptable? Or is it only for farangs with PR status?

What are you people talking about 'any blue book'.

You got to be living there.

TM30, does that ring any bells, hello people, it's not that difficult.

OMG, we are going around in circles.

Yes I understand that, but if the farang's name is not in the blue book, how can the IO determine the farang lives there? What's to prevent the farang from giving ANY blue book?

Why would you do something so stupid?

We are all on their database, they know everything about you.

And their database is only as good as the info we give them.

So in your mind a blue book WITHOUT the farang's name is good enough to get a CoR?

You make it sound like foreigners have blue books coming out of their you know what.

A blue house book is not a common item for Thais, most of the Thai people working in Pattaya won't have one.

Where did you pull that "fact" out of? 555.

Nothing to do with my mind, it's what I use.

I bought my second house in Pattaya 22 years ago, I moved into this house 19 years ago and have been using the blue house book since.

Before that I was using my first house blue book.

Most will be registered in a Blue Book but they won't be property owners.

Geeze I got the dill brigade here today.

Went to immigration for a Certificate in 2004, what a performance, + took 3 weeks for in to arrive, never been back for a Certificate since at immigration ...

Use the local Town Hall, need - Passport, Blue Book, letter from owner + copy of there i.d + the head man of the local Village, done in a few mins FREE..

Ok past few years is easy as I am on there Computer so they just look up last entry put on a new date, print the local headman signs and they take it to the Junta for the big red seal.

Not likely. They tighten up on shelling out CoR’s to tourists. Obtain a long term permission to stay
