A loud explosion rocked Pattaya’s Beach Road on Wednesday night, January 31st, causing panic among locals and tourists.

 

The incident occurred at 11:45 PM, prompting an urgent response from the Pattaya police and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit.

Upon arrival, authorities found a chaotic scene with residents and tourists shaken by the blast. Eyewitnesses, including 40-year-old motorcycle taxi driver Mr. Suwit Srichantuek, described the harrowing scene. Mr. Suwit stated that he was picking up a traffic cone when a loud explosion erupted, followed by the sight of a ping-pong ball-like object falling from the cone. The explosion caused panic, with people fleeing the area.

 

Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the incident. However, a second explosive device, roughly the size of a hand grenade and wrapped in black duct tape, was found hidden in another traffic cone near the initial blast site. The EOD unit immediately cordoned off the area and removed the device for disposal in a remote location.

How can this happen in what we all know to be a World Class family tourist resort? 🤔

Do I read correctly that a MC taxi driver picked up the cone and it exploded?   And another close to it also held a bomb?   Someone was a bit serious about reserving their parking space?

Suggestion to @Jumbo1968 with respect to your problem parker blocking your entryway, as seen in your pics he already has brought his own cones too.    Of course, he might have pre-loaded them.

I was pondering as to why IEDs were being used in Pattaya and fear it may be as simple as you suggest!

There's just got to be some CTTV worth looking at for this IED placement.

This only works sporadically, dependent on high the public opinion clamour is.

Where are the reports of personal injury and property damage caused by the 'blast'? Being so close Mr Suwit must now be in hospital. 

 

I suggest he moved the traffic cone and there was a loud bang that startled passers by. 🙄

it could happen in any city or in the sticks stop picking on Pattaya.

I would expect the bomb disposal guy to wear a bit protective gear. Not sure if the white latex gloves will do the trick.

 

I have also doubts that the guy mentioned and pictured in the article is 40 years old.
