A reckless police officer under the influence of alcohol crashed his pickup into a motorcycle and dragged a 12 year old boy along the road in the Isaan province of Roi Et, leaving the victim hospitalised and in critical condition.

The crash between the two vehicles on Prem Pracharath Road was reported to Mueang Roi Et Police Station at 9.50am today, February 1. Upon investigation, the pickup was not present at the scene. Police found only the 12 year old victim, Warit Puengpaisarn, who bore scratches all over his body and suffered a major wound to his face.

Warit was rushed to the Roi Et Hospital by a rescue team. The hospital revealed that both of his arms were broken and the boy was in critical condition.

Warit’s grandmother, Supaporn, recounted the accident to the police saying she and her grandson were travelling to the Tung Charoen Fresh Market. She was riding and Warit was a passenger.

Maybe better to read the article first  under the influence of alcohol

I can't help feeling that people in positions of authority who abuse the trust placed in them, need punishing much harder than kids who smoke dope or deal it, or ordinary citizens that pick mushrooms in National Parks. Surely this fellow will be moved to an inactive post or transferred. He should be publicly flogged and put in prison for a decade with monsters, as should all corrupt officers and public servants and abusers of power.

There's a monster's prison? Really? Where?

When you havev situations like this how can you expect other road users to obey the law?

As Supaporn was slowing down to enter the market car park, a pickup hit her motorcycle and dragged Warit for 300 metres along the road. Supaporn said she shouted at the pickup to stop but the driver continued to drive away at high speed.

Police managed to stop the pickup at an intersection near a Roi Et Kindergarten, nearly 2 kilometres away from the accident scene. The pickup driver crashed his car into nearly 10 vehicles along his escape route.

The driver was reported to be a police officer, identified as 50 year old Police Senior Sergeant Major Somsong Sriardree-aram. Somsong was reportedly under the influence of alcohol,

I think that flyingtiger means that he pulled an all-night drinking session or started drinking very early in the morning. That being the reason for being under the influence of alcohol.

Read the article, again. And after you read it, try to understand it.

Erm...   you have never heard of the phrase...  "pulling an all nighter" referring to an all night drinking session ?...

... here's another phrase for you... "letting your foot off the clutch too early" !!!!

Pretty sure he meant pulled an all-nighter out boozing or started boozing very early in the morning.

"pulling an all nighter" = working the night shift - to earn more money

The story refers to a drunk driver not a tired office worker...

Keep digging that hole...   its amusing how some posters will double down on their on mistakes in an attempt to save face..

It was more than obvious as to exactly what was meant...

Police Senior Sergeant Major Somsong Sriardree-aram. Somsong was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, with a blood alcohol level of 321 milligrammes percent, far above the legal limit of 50 milligrams per cent.

Glad they called him out by name. He should be shamed to no end, his reputation should be completely soiled, and he should be locked up for a significant period of time. If the police cannot be held to a higher standard what does this say about a society? It's a very sorry statement and an act perpetrated by an extremely heinous, ridiculous, pathetic, unmanly person who does not even measure up to the standard of a real man.

I wouldn't be surprised if Big Joke gets the cretin off the hook, they sure don't like prosecuting their own.

I think instead of the current name that they have, the proper name should be STP (Soiled Thai Police. Seems like both the army and the police have an exceptionally high number of men who misbehave, and are major social misfits and  delinquents.

In his defence, running away and refusing to take responsibility is very common here. Part of that Thai culture we are always told we should respect!

Damn and all these years I thought the monsters were living under my bed.

Well that's what my parents told me as a kid.... methinks they lie!

Most people have common sense and come from countries where DUI is unacceptable

Many believe their uniform allows it. And not only in the police and military but in public service such as immigration or local offices. Why do you think so many people in Thailand wear uniforms. Members of my family are teachers and are often asked to dress up in white. It makes those who have uniforms feel important and better than others, and for some that means they can exploit their 'status' and bully or intimidate others. It's a very primitive society.

Maybe this fine upstanding policeman (if he could stand, which is debatable) could claim a family servant was driving and then flee overseas.

Most countries unfortunately does not include Thailand

Everything will be swept under the carpet after a week, the boy and his mother will be get the message that they better keep quit about the matter and life goes on the beautiful Land of Smiles.

Just my 2 cents input in this thread ....

What a nasty POS.

A hit and run on a child by a police officer, pished up.

Just disgusting.
