Ask the person who measured and recorded the amount as being 'litres'.

Surely they should have quarantined the passengers and plane until they determine what caused this, just as a precaution?

Of course, this may have been caused by something entirely non-transmissible, as suggested by @EvetsKram, but equally (unless there's some other information about the patient's condition that we haven't been told) it could be something more dangerous - and potentially contagious.

Tragic way to go , it’s a pity he was not hospitalised before the flight , might have saved his life , spitting blood before the  flight took off he should not have been allowed to fly at that  time , horrific ordeal for his wife also , RIP

Math seems a bit strange - even if the 1.5 hours was just outbound flight time.  That he was allowed to fly also seems at odds with normal practice these days.  So wife got back on a replacement flight leaving body where?  UK news reporting seems almost as bad a local stuff.

The flight data actually shows that the flight (LH773) left the gate at 1648 UTC, took off at 1707 UTC, turned at 1826 UTC, landed at 1927 UTC and gated at 1935 UTC. Add 7 hours to UTC to get Thai time.

Understand - but I still call it GMT and consider WWV the time standard authority.  Bit long in the tooth I admit.

Probably not, as body only has about 5L of blood.

You need the video and photo's for the Lawyer....   could be worth a few million if one sitting near has nightmares or coughs again.

Makes perfect sense. The guy being quoted is a Swiss national and is talking to a Swiss news outlet therefore talking Swiss Francs.

Fair point. So they were offered the equivalent of 410 baht.

I am surprised that they allowed him to Check in or board considering his apparent condition.

Oh yes he had a a big medical before he went on the plane and all staff on the plane are medical specialists. Sure they could know he was not aible to fly at that moment  🤔

This would be quite an awful sight.

I bet the passengers were terrified, thinking is this contagious etc.

I flew many times to and from Jeddah, every year during Mecca, Hajj, you'd expect a passenger to die (rediculous religion forcing these elderly people to attend), most deaths were silent, passing in the toilet. Very old people, probably never flown or traveled before in their life.

Before landing the flight attendants would knock on the toilet door, no answer, look inside then lock the door, the plane would land.

Abu Dhabi was an issue because your connecting flight to BKK would be delayed for a few hours.

Ayortic annurism? Get yours checked guys if you’re over 65. Free in the Uk. It’s 10 minute external check using KY jelly and an ultrasound wand over the chest. Search your local health authority website, not your GP.

When I was in the Army, they called it Zulu time.

Oh, and WWV or WWVH?   🤪

The lungs have direct arterial supply from the heart, via pulmonary arteries.

The man - who was travelling with his Filipina wife - had got on with 'cold sweats' and was 'breathing much too quickly' before passengers rushed to help him, offering chamomile tea and taking his pulse.

This was before take-off according to the report

They still do - time zone 24 is Zulu.  Makes it much easier as just add the letter "Z" to date/time and you know what it means anywhere in the world.

WWVH is NIST (formally National Bureau of Standards) transmitter in Hawaii.

I have a battery powered wall clock that used to belong to the Army Security Agency at Fort Devens, MA.   It had the letter Z stuck to the face of it.

I used to work with  a high frequency direction finding network.   WWV and WWVH were two of our calibration DF targets.   Depending on the time of day at the location of the DF station, one or the other WWV stations could not be heard due to propagation of the signal.  Sometimes neither could be heard.  If either station was in the Grayline, then some stations might get a false line of bearing on the station.

Correction, that clock has Z 5 on it.   Zulu plus 5 hours.

that is very good advice.

i did an echocardiogram a few months ago at the thai government hospital, and it cost 3'000 baht!

they examined my heart, assessed all its valves, and also looked for any signs of an aneurysm.

I probably looked at that clock during the six months I spent there.  In 60/61.

It seems no one noticed this sentence:

Passengers also claim they were offered 'a 10-franc voucher (£9.06)'.

When do the Franc go out of common use? Is this really a 2024 story?

RIP

In their defence that is how most viral/zombie end of civilisation movies start.

- The original reporting was shall we say not good. It reads as if the poor fellow turned into a blood fountain.

Off topic post!

I don't think so, I could be wrong though.  It is a Quartz C cell battery powered clock.   If it was in the large conference room at the end of the building on the 2nd floor at coords 42 32 53.7 x -71 36 37.4, then this is the clock.   In the 60's I think that clocks that looked like this were plug in only.   I think that back in the early 70's they were plug in only.   This clock may have been an INSCOM clock.  The exterior has not aged well and it appears to have been dropped and a piece of the brown surround broken off.  Other than that, it is the most accurate clock in the house, even if I only use AA batteries with it rather than a C cell.

Checking google earth I see that windows facing the streets are now boarded up and there are fences blocking access.  I, rescued, the clock back in 2013 about a week after returning to the U.S. of A. from my 5 weeks in Thailand.

Swiss Franc. At least TRY to keep up.
Daily Mail story came from Blick, who communicated with a Swiss passenger.

"Passengers took pictures onboard as the drama unfolded."  Why?  Were they going to update their status on Facebook, Instagram, or some other social media platform?

I would.
