Following a viral post on the Drama-addict page warning of a popular bank app deducting money every minute without the account owner even using the app or conducting any transactions, concerns arose. What's happening? The 'banking app' deducts money every minute without being in use, reported Daily News. Recently, on the official Facebook page of Thanachart Bank, netizens gathered to discuss and criticize the issue of customers being drained money by the bank app. Comments flooded in, asking, "Is there no action regarding customers being drained of money on their own? What's causing this?" The page administrators of the bank responded, stating, "The bank is aware of the matter and is not taking it lightly. We are urgently investigating all affected transactions. Any transactions not initiated by the cardholder and verified will be refunded within 5 business days. The bank has a real-time abnormal transaction detection system. Therefore, customers can trust the system and the bank's security measures. Customers can also choose to enable or disable online usage functions through the ttb touch app by going to Settings >> Debit Card Management >> Set Spending Limits and Card Usage >> Authorization >> Select Disable Online Purchase Authorization. Online purchase authorization should only be enabled when about to make an online purchase and should then be immediately disabled again. I had this exact problem with my TTB debit card, some time ago. Someone had managed to get hold of my card number and security code and had made an unauthorized purchase for 32 Baht. I still have no idea how this happened but TTB advise me whenever my account is accessed so I was able to immediately block the card. They issued me with a new card and refunded the 32 Baht. It confirms my decision not to use mobile phone banking as it seems that every scam involves mobile banking. They pick a small amt for each transaction so that the banking software doesn't kick in to stop them. These kind of fraudulent transactions is nothing new, as a matter of fact I was one of the victims of an earlier wave of small (around 30 Baht) fraudulent debit card transactions. It's not the app that allows or disallows online debit card transactions, it's the settings on your card in the bank's central system that does that. The app is just one way that you can change those settings, another option is to go to your branch and ask them to do it. I found out last week that I am only notified through a text message of a banking transaction if it is 50 baht or more. I'm aware of a case at a very large bank about 30+ years back, the bank had some level of basic computerization. After an investigation the bank discovered that an employee was skimming 25 satang off every account early morning and once a week or similar.
