Could you explain why given that Brexit has delivered few, if any, benefits?

Perhaps so, but Brexit was the original division upon which these other fractures have emerged.

This is not a Brexit thread, I know a few here wait in the wings for a Brexit dig, but it does get a bit boring, Raymond....😉

You're gonna have to back this up with some facts.

EDIT: I did it for you!

White people have the lowest rate of unemployment out of all the ethnic groups, according the UK government website.

Trans, I didn't bring Brexit up so point the finger elsewhere.

However, once Brexit is brought into the discussion, I feel that it is my civic duty to correct the falicy that it has been of  net benefit to the country😉

Lol, just 3% of whites (lowest in the country) compared to 9% of Pakistani/Bangladeshi, and 7% for other Asians and 7% for blacks.

That's more than a ×2 to ×3 higher unemployment rate for those other groups, making them the highest in the country.

But it's those lazy whites, right @Nick Carter icp?? 😄 🤣 😂 😆 😄 🤣 😂

The energy price crisis triggered by Russia's invasion of Ukraine has led to the most significant surge in absolute poverty in the UK in three decades, according to newly released data. The sharp rise in prices resulted in hundreds of thousands more individuals falling into absolute poverty, pushing the figure to 12 million in 2022-2023—an increase of 600,000.

Absolute poverty, a metric frequently cited by the prime minister to gauge the government's performance, now affects 18% of the UK population—a rise of 0.78 percentage points. This increase would have been even more pronounced without government interventions such as Cost of Living payments, which helped mitigate the impact on vulnerable households.

image.png

Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride emphasized the government's response, highlighting the "biggest cost of living package in Europe," averaging £3,800 per household. He noted that this support prevented 1.3 million people from falling into poverty during the period under review.

However, despite efforts to alleviate the situation, the number of children and working-age adults in poverty each rose by approximately 300,000 individuals. Alarmingly, a quarter of children are now living in absolute poverty, marking the highest increase in child poverty rates since at least the mid-1990s.

The true extent of poverty goes beyond income statistics, with indicators such as food insecurity and inadequate heating providing a more nuanced picture. The Institute for Fiscal Studies highlights a rise in food insecurity from 8% to 11% and a doubling in the proportion of individuals unable to heat their homes adequately.

Opposition parties have condemned the government's handling of the crisis, with Labour describing the statistics as "horrifying" and underscoring their commitment to reducing child poverty. The Liberal Democrats and the Scottish National Party also criticized the government's response, emphasizing the human impact behind the alarming figures.

As the UK grapples with the repercussions of the energy price crisis, the challenge of addressing poverty remains a pressing concern. The government faces mounting pressure to implement effective measures to support vulnerable households and mitigate the impact of economic instability on the most marginalized communities.

The price UK have to pay after having left EU. End not in sight. 🙏

They are the ones allowing the extortionate prices of the utilities...so people can't afford to heat their homes!

The high prices are more to do with high taxation in fuel and record massive profits for the gas and water companies...which are foreign owned...

No, the prices are not mainly about that. If they were, they would be constantly high.

The burden would have been a lot higher for everyone had the government not stepped in with payments to all. They continue to help the more needy with payment now.

The utility companies have millions of shareholders. Many UK based, many pension and investment companies, from which many of the UK public benefit.

Of course the last 14 years are more relevant, in terms of numbers, but the trend was set during from 2001, under Blair & Co.

The Tories must have concluded that having our noses rubbed in diversity was a good option. I expect that thinking will change after the next GE.

Yes they did. View the following and be enlightened.

My mum and dad weren't allowed to buy their council house in Aberdeen in 2017? Because they lived in what the local council called a 'stressed' housing area, and selling off local authority housing in stressed areas isn't allowed.

Rayner's council housing in Stockport wasn't 'stressed' in 2007.

Why was my parent's housing area stressed? Look at the graph above.

Not sure anyone needs heating, sleeping bags work well even outside in the snow.

Oh dear ... Are you really that desperate to avoid answering my question about the benefits of Brexit that you resort to posting outright lies in an attempt to divert attention? Thought that you were better than that, nauseus.

If you refer to page 1, you will see that sirineou was the first person to mention Brexit in this thread, followed by herfiehandbag. I replied to herfie (my first post in this thread).

If you must make up things can I suggest that you at least make it a bit more difficult to disprove the lie.

Take it easy. You are correct about who was first in with the Brexit mention. My mistake rather than an intentional lie. Apologies.,

I'm not desperate to avoid answering your question. I'm just bored with it after how many times now?

Problem is most 'poor' people in the UK consider themselves poor if they do not have the latest i-phone, a 65 inch tv, at least 2 dogs, 5 children, beer on tap, cheap fags, sky subscriptions and easy access to weed. Least that is what 2 years in blackpool during covid taught me

The issue often in the UK is families who have no working person producing an income.

Many would rather rely on Government handouts / benfits to live, and pay for everything!

That's one reason why illegal immigrants much prefer to live legally and illegally in the UK.

However, don't believe this is worse or special to the UK, it is a common situtation in virtually all countries, whether advertised or admitted.

I will say though I feel sorry for low income families who work and struggle to survive.

I’m expect you might have a particular individual in mind, perhaps someone close or a family member.

But it’s a bit of a sweeping generalization once you start to apply that to millions of people living in poverty in the UK of 2024.

Don’t you think?
