I once asked my then GF (now wife) why she loved me (as she claimed).

She gave me 5 reasons that immediately came to her head without thinking:

Having spoken to quite a few Thai women about this topic, I've heard things like many foreigners drink a lot less which is very appealing, a lot of foreigners are romantic and treat their women with respect, and are kind-hearted with women. And most don't engage in aggressive behavior towards them. Of course there's the element of financial security too, but that always comes into play no matter where you are.

I think, in general, that sums it up.

 

Maybe we should ask: How many Thai women would choose a farang if Thai men with the same income were available for them?

It seems most mixed relationships here are between relatively poor Thai girls and women and farangs who have a lot more money/income than those women.

 

When I met my poor, small, cute and brown gf, I don't think any Thai men were interested in her. The Thai males I talked to (in general) all wanted white, tall and not so skinny girls. 

Even now, when I ride in a taxi, and the driver ask me if I have a wife, I say yes, she is small and brown and they laugh. Like, why would any guy want a small brown girl?

 

There are huge differences in our culture and almost anything else. We can overcome those hurdles, but a relationship with people with similar upbringing is just so much easier.

Thai men of any age want young and pretty and no kids.

 

Farang men of any age also want young and pretty and no kids. But many farang men go for the first Thai women who they think loves them, even if she is already over 30 and has kids. I am sure many of those men think later that maybe they should have spent some more time before making a commitment.

Thais don't date or marry below their own socioeconomic class - however foreigners do - so most women in the country only have two choices:

 

1. Poor village bloke

2. Farang

 

It's that simple.

Basically,  these are low class women describing low class men.

 

And besides farang, that's all they can get because high class Thai men don't marry low class Thai women.

 

Thai men from higher social classes do not typically exhibit these traits as described above.

 

If you were talking to high class women they'd be speaking highly of their men

As for foreigners, don't think I've ever met one in Thailand that had higher social status than a Thai hooker. Postman, plumber, house painter, carpet layer, miner, cruise ship waiter, etc.

my wife and several of her friends want/ed foreign husbands due to the childish thai men that want many giks, drink a lot and the women to support them, they want genuine males that treat them as equals and where love grows not disappears as soon as they are married. All these women were/are in comfortable positions with great wages and already owning their own homes, they do not want butterflies that have huge egos, they want faithful husbands that treat them well but a lot of farangs are just as bad if not worse than thai men, its all sex and alcohol for them plus a huge ego.

I think a lot of the comments here would have been far more relevant even only 10 years ago. I have noticed the shift in Thai women’s opinions on western men. The grey porcelain high so girls in the shopping malls are all giving me the eye nowadays…well their grandmother's are at least.

dunno , I asked my  wife  about her life and she said after growing up in an Issan village and seeing her Mother the last thing she wanted to be was  poor. Have no idea why she maried me although she was 29 at the time and I as a self made multi billionaire of 97 yrs  old thought I should setlle  down with wife number 18.............ok the last half is BS Im 96

Not true at all, they initially gravitate towards Thai men because of language and culture, not anything else in particular.

 

The times I have seen self-denigrating on this board or others quoting the stereotypes of old, fat farang wearing Beer-labelled tank tops by posters. It's a lot of nonsense and low self-esteem.

 

Many people, Thai and Foreigners, view this as a contract of tolerance. They get to travel, live well and not worry about where the next meal is coming from or who will pay the utility bill and the foreigner gets the obvious.

 

There are horrendous stories of violence, mia nois, etc in Thai with Thai relationships.

 

Sometimes, people just want to live and let live. I know my other half does and has no regrets about never getting involved long-term with a Thai male.
