It is an age thing, if you look at the Thais majority are relatively young. Foreigners tend to be a bit older but there are those that have never really grown up.

....... you're talking about the Thais? Spot on. It's a great festival in its original format and intent. Unfortunately, the never really grown up segment of the population have made it a nasty orgy of idiotic and infantile behaviour.

  • The problem with the Pattaya Songkran is that it goes on too long and it attracts the worse kind of foreigners who try to knock people off of their scooters, and other bad behaviour disguised as "fun"

  • Thais?OK,...its the brainless ex pats that are the problem

There was no water splashing in 2020, 2021 and 2022. What a happy time!

Come on,  your just making excuses for bagging Songkran.

Get on your bike with some plastic bags, micro pore tape and elastic bands.

covering the foot,  and go to your clinic or hospital.

your making it a big deal of it, it's not. :coffee1:

With that avatar clown, why don't you go and brexit yourself?

If there is one thing I can't stand, it's a lot of scantily clad, soaking wet young women laughing and dancing with straggly hair and faces painted with powder, particularly when they try in involve me in such nonsense!

It is quite annoying, especially when driving, and dangerous if on a motorbike, along with your electronics/phone getting wet.

I have an E-motorcycle, and would prefer not have water thrown on it.

EV haters will tell you our cars will spontaneously ignite when wet, so there's that also :coffee1:

Nice to see the Ev card at play.

do they work in the rain.

On your bike. :giggle:

Well imagine if a whole bunch of old thai men showed up to England and wanted your New years fireworks banned. Or Xmas

You would tell them the same.

That's going to happen anyhow in the pursuit of inclusivity..... Eid and Diwali rule now...

A lot of Thais go home to get away from Songkran in Pattaya

I believe mine goes to do similar in the village and get away from me!

Oh look.

Not a Bald, Fat, 40  plus, Tattooed Falang in that one.

Oh is that the real Songkran some talk about.

How's that for a bit of balance outraged girls.

Happy Songkran.

Try not to lose it over the Songkran period.

just remember, smile.

Hua Hin used to be limited, both how many hours, and only two days, not sure how it is today, but that was okay.

Thats the good thing with remote Isaan, they celebrating a bit more traditional, and respect people who do not participate.

I can only assume this out of context post was down to English not being your first language.

Obvious difficulty differentiating "foreigners" and "population".

"Happy"   you must be gormless.  I'm not being targeted by idiotic foreigner (not Thai) that wants fun.   Was asked not to throw water over me, but did,  he saw stars

I understand the urge.

It's A-hole falangs that are the worst.

A Falang that goes around punching people over water,  during the Songkran festival in Thailand is a moron.

How's your Moronosphere holding up today.

Is it really only the 17th. 3 more f...... days to go before i get my life back.

You people are mixing things up so here is the breakdown

OK - Thai girls with micro water guns giving you a tiny spray across your body

NOT OK - Farang sitting at bar with huge water jet attached to a bin full of water able to go entire way across the road

NOT OK - Buckets poured directly over someones head

OK I hate it now! Wanted to go to Nickys on Bukhao for a great breakfast and found them closed until 20th after Songkran 😞

Tale told few years ago ,farang sat in open taxi along with Thais, one smart young woman obv  going to work, soaked by farang throwing bucketful at them.   Farang dismounted, took the bucket off the thrower and smacked him over the head with it,stating" I hope you enjoyed that too"...wonderful

One day water fights would be enough, now many businesses suffer, Thais go home to avoid, people stay home instead.

I'd like to see which businesses actually made more money the Songkran week, 100s made less money

Yes would be interesting to hear from the business community. I haven't been able to go to a bar or restaurant for 9 days. I guess many like Nickys on Soi Buakhao just close up and take it as a New Year holiday.

Perhaps my memory is bad, but I feel this year has been a lot less crazy than I remember from before covid.

I've been able to go for walks in the morning all the way up to early afternoon without getting wet. I have avoided the main water throwing areas in the afternoon and evening of course.

One example is the beer bar complex at the bottom of Soi 8 on Beach Road. I remember that going pretty much 24/7, but in the mornings nothing was happening. Yesterday I walked down Soi 6 at about 11 am and nary a drop of water was thrown.

This year is even more crazy because they throw water even after the midnight!

Just another pin in the box assuring me people are stupid when a water festival like this is considered as fun. For 30 min yes, I can play along, but for f sake, just imaging coming to pattaya for a well earned holiday, and this thing was going on for a week? I would be pissed off.

they deserved each other obviously, ment to happen

Tourism authority of Thailand are as bad using Songkran, one of their most Religious  Festivals to attract tourists for the sake of more money, and  local Government for allowing it too continue into the early hours of the Morning
