Am I a cheating bad guy, or would you do the same?

I recently bought an electrical product from a leading retailer, for a price of less than 1,000B.

When I got it home, it was faulty, but I can't find the receipt.

I have now gone back to another branch and bought the same item again, and of course kept the receipt.

And tomorrow I plan to go back to return the original item with the receipt for the second purchase.

I AM NOT asking for a refund, and am happy to have two items (if they replace it), having paid twice (once for each).

Part of me feels a bit guilty, but another part of me says it's ok. I have paid two times with good money, but the first item was clearly faulty (wouldn't charge).

You may be called a bad guy if the seller compares the serial number on the receipt, or their records, with the serial number on the faulty device.   As you have paid out twice, IMO not chea

Depends on how sophisticated their inventory system is...  But if it's sophisticated enough to recognize the S/N, the OP wouldn't even need the receipt.

But I agree.  Not cheating, and that's what I'd have done, and have in the past.  With no remorse, even though I often second guess myself.

The Philipines has a good system. In the Electrical stores  after you pay for an item you proceed to another counter that has power points set up and a staff member will open up the package and plug the item into the power .If it doesnt work they will get another one and test it.If that ones o.k. he will pack it up and off you go.No arguments.

They do that in most stores here too. IIRC they test before you pay.

For many items and brands, you don't need a receipt.

Check on their website for the importer or distributor or something like that, or authorized service center.

Go there, or call them, and ask what you can do.

Likely, at least with a good brand, you can get things repaired when they realize that you bought it recently from an authorized dealer.

I sort of knew that, and worded my heading accordingly.

Solly!

No,

until they check the SN.

God gave you a conscience for decisions like this. If it is bothering you, then pay close attention to it.

James 4:17.....Therefore to him that knows to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.

The best course of action is to always tell the truth. Just go throw yourself on the mercy of the retailer's return department, and I'm sure they will understand and cut you some slack. Try it! You'll be pleasantly surprised what will happen when you practice righteousness.

If your worried about this issue branding you as a cheating bad guy, your missing out on a lot of fun here in Thailand.

I purchased some stuff from Lotus at One Nut and lost the receipt.  I later found that the shorts I'd picked up were a 34" waist and I am a 32" waist.
I went back to Lotus (2 days later) and asked the customer service if I could exchange them.

They asked me a few questions such as what day and time I made the purchase, how did I pay (bank app scan), what else I purchased and then to my surprise they were able to print out a copy of my receipt.
Then they let me go and get the correct size and everything was sorted out.

The customer service personnel where really helpful and as I don't speak a word of Thai the whole thing was done in English with no issue.

It’s called theft I was out the other night on my own had a meal and a couple of beers asked for the bill and when it arrived I told the waitress it was undercharged she was adamant it was correct I called the headman over told him what I’d had and yes they undercharged by 100 baht  had they realised the mistake later the poor waitress would have had it taken off her salary I went home and had a good sleep !

Please visit a psychiatrist if you feel remorse or need validation for this vile behavior.

Happens more often than one would think.  The GF looks at me like I'm crazy, when I point it out, and pay the extra.

Cheap no good.. good no cheap...

Farang no cheat...bad guy..

I’ll keep a cold beer for you when I meet you in hell. Share stories of how we ended up there😂😂😂

It is really. This is just a diversionary tactic!

I bet you stole that beer ?!

Hardly a big issue. Find something else to worry about.
