webfact Posted May 19, 2024 Posted May 19, 2024 Patong authorities are actively pursuing a group of men linked to a violent assault on Bangla Road, which resulted in injuries to a British tourist early yesterday morning. The altercation occurred in the vicinity of a 7-Eleven near Soi Sea Dragon around 4:40 am. Upon police arrival, Charlie Faulkner, a British tourist, was discovered with a stab wound on his lower left side. Responders from the Kusoldharm Foundation provided initial medical aid and transported him to Patong Hospital for further treatment. According to witnesses, Faulkner had engaged in a dispute with a group of Thai men prior to the stabbing. Following the attack, the assailants fled, leaving Faulkner to seek refuge within the 7-Eleven premises. In response, Patong police have assembled an investigative team to review surveillance footage from the area, aiming to identify and apprehend the individuals involved in the assault. Police Lieutenant Colonel Chanan Mekchai emphasized their commitment, stating, "We are diligently analyzing CCTV recordings and compiling essential evidence to ensure accountability for those responsible." The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities urging anyone with pertinent information to come forward and aid in the resolution of the case. Popular Post sumongkhwai Posted May 19, 2024 Popular Post Posted May 19, 2024 Nothing ever good happens at 4:00 am. I'm sure the Brit was pissed and then got into it with a local or two. One thing I learned long before my wife taught me is that when you fight a Thai you are fighting 9 not just one. Keep your head down, ignore the comments and keep moving. I can swear rightly in Thai but, my wife has always told never to do so and I respect her advice (aside from the fact I'm getting to old to scrap with people a third of my age although I could probably take them but with knives and guns and what not, just stay quiet, plus we're pretty much done with the past 12:00 am bar scene, nothing but trouble- mostly for me!) 4 21 2 2 4 3 1

Popular Post soalbundy Posted May 19, 2024 Popular Post Posted May 19, 2024 Normally Brits get stabbed in the UK, not abroad on holiday. One can assume he didn't get up early to see the sunrise, more likely he had a skinful and tried his verbal skills on a bunch of belligerent Thais, it wasn't a good idea but he knows that now. 4 1 1 2

When I lived there 6 months in 1996, the Thai workers in the bars loved the opportunity to crack a bottle over the head of some foreigner playing up. Seems like in this instance its a gang setting on one person, so you'd think posters would be a bit more circumspect than simply blaming the Brit. It's not really a nice area of Thailand. Tourists do stuff that gets them hated and eyes light up when a chance for revenge is presented. 2 10 2 1 2
Popular Post spermwhale Posted May 19, 2024 Popular Post Posted May 19, 2024 Living in Thailand for 17 years and having crossed paths while drunk with local guys, I NEVER had a problem. I've always been friendly to Thais and smile and when walking by guys sitting and drinking whisky and one of them calls out at me "YOU YOU." I always smile a and say "Sawasdee kraap" next thing you know they invite me for a drink 2 9 1 2 1

Stargeezr Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 Most tourists are in bed asleep at 4 AM. It is likely that this Brit guy was not sober as well and that is the time to be more friendly and polite. It could have been a bit worse, he could have been shot. i learned long ago to never get very drunk on my holiday to Thailand. I hope this guy learned that lesson as well. 2

Popular Post cookie1974 Posted May 20, 2024 Popular Post Posted May 20, 2024 You would think from some of the the braindead idiot comments that brits are the only ones who get in trouble here, in 20 years iv seen and heard of all nationalities who have had problems for whatever reason if you want trouble here or unlucky enough for it to find you it will happen your nationality is irrelevant. 1 10 1

Good work inspector I'm sure he was assaulted for just being a good Samaritan. 😂 Maybe in the UK or Australia. 1
Expat Tom Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 Several year ago I contemplated moving from Thailand to Colombia. I had visited Colombia several times and found much to like. I decided to remain in Thailand in part, because I thought Thailand was much safer. As of late, I am not sure that Thailand is safer. One more small item for my RFL File ( Reason For Leaving). 2

Popular Post RayOday Posted May 20, 2024 Popular Post Posted May 20, 2024 I won't speculate on what occurred. I do know that I have read reports in the past 3 months of numerous incidents on Bangla Road. I have lived in Thailand 7 years and cannot understand why the Thai police have zero cops walking a "beat". The only patrols I have ever seen are two cops on a motorcycle punching a control at a wealthy person's home, international resort, or a diplomatic mission and then moving on. Road side checkpoints are not patrols in my view. Learning the beat, knowing the people, and understanding the rhythm of the neighborhood is not part of their SOP. As such they continue to foster negative experiences with respect to their tourism revenue stream and allow Thailand to remain in the top 5% percent globally in road deaths per Capita. It's hard to do your job when your mobile phone gets in the way. 1 3
