What is sad is people can campaign for DA based on "getting a particular person"? I can't imagine that in any other country but the USA that politically appoints judges.

A friend who was there told me the abuse directed at Trump initially faded early on, and he was being well-received by the end if his speech. This appears to have been the case after reading through the entire article.

And the Judge made a specific point of informing Defendant Trump that he had and absolute right to give testimony in his own defense, expressly stating that the Partial Gag Order Defendant Trump is under placed no restrictions on his right to give testimony before the court in his own defence.

 

Of course that testimony would be under oath and entirely at the defendant’s own volition.

The location of the trial is based on the location of where the crimes were committed,

Trump's defense team were at liberty to call witnesses at will. Those they did call embarrassed them. In all probability Trump's legal reps were probably  quite panicked at the possibility Trump would insist , against ardent counseling, on adding to their embarrassment.
