Thailand is getting more boring

I think Thailand is losing its appeal. Not much fun anymore. Vietnam might be worth a look. Once you get past the cheap shallow stuff not much to enjoy. Pretty much 90% of the farangs I see are low quality.

You obviously don't know as much about Thailand as you think you do.

Pretty much 90% of the farangs I see are low quality.

Can't you stop complaining about other farangs and move to where there are not any? I lived in Lamphun- hardly ever saw a farang. I also lived in a village and saw no farangs at all.

Please feel free to move on to wherever you want to go.   How much of Thailand do you know? How long did it take you to decide "Thailand is losing its appeal. Not much fun anymore."

Nothing to do with beaches. Actually the beaches are the highlight. The cities are 95% the same. Same average markets, shopping centres and restaurants. The only differences are traffic, farang numbers and bargirl numbers.

The place is shallow.

Talk about a moaner not willing to change anything. If don't like the cities, MOVE. Go live in the countryside.

So many great places to live in LOS, and you have apparently never got to see any of them.

Well I've been to far more cities than you. You havent been in Thailand for years. It is ok but its not that exciting.

7/11, cafe, restaurant, market. Most cities are the same.

I'm in the country now. A remote town you have never been.

Op would attract attention from Thai's doing that so would not work out.

Some folks say; "If I move somewhere else, then I'll be happy"
Others say; "If I'm happy, it doesn't matter where I live."
It's not outside of us...

Don't you have hobbies/interests or a passion? I would assume a high quality person such as yourself would have more purpose in life.

7/11, cafe, restaurant, market. Most cities are the same.

Some have many farang, some not too many, some only a few. Same with decent and cheap eating and drinking places.

If you are bored with and in Thailand, you must be bored with life.  This place is a paradise in comparison to 90% of the World.

Boring ? Depends on each person so will not judge others.

Annoying ? Definately, with all the immigration hassles, paperwork they ask, all the reporting required, the absurd prices that are rising on everything. But who wants to stay long stay now with all the tax threats that could arise on foreigners earned pensions or revenue ?

The tax issue, immigration hassles and the systematic overcharging prices to foreigners, would be more a reason to quit for those who can.

So outside of the sexpat havens, Bangkok, Pattaya and Puket, if you were blindfolded and dropped into any Thai city you'd be hard pressed to know where you were.

For the most part Thai cities have no distinguishable features and all look pretty much the same.

Out in the sticks, same thing. The local town is the same surrounded by small farms, and again dropped in blindfolded you could be anywhere

To the OP, how about take about kiteboarding or something active? Long distance cycling? Learn to surf on Koh Phayam? Hua Hin has kiteboarding and the north around Chiang Mai has some gorgeous bicycling routes.

It matters.

You can be out in the desert and you can find things to do, but it's not easy. Some people need an environment where activities are approachable and suited to their personalities.

Stop acting like there is something wrong with people who are not satisfied in any environment. I'm sick and tired of that Bs.

I see little difference really. Just lower farang numbers in some places. I went to Kalasin, Maha Sarakham, Burilam and Korat. All basically the same. Phanom Rung is more pretty than Ayuthaya but worth 3 hours.

So what's the attraction? Well either you sit on a beach or hire women or ladyboys or you drink.

You need to take some happy pills, its all inside you, the place is still the same before you landed then lost appeal for it, you know same same...stay off the grog and out of the bars thats step one to improve youre outlook...

And the service is lazy now.  I walked up to chicken and fries place and ordered chicken and fries.  She looked at me and said no chicken.  Okay so I ordered fries.  She stares at me in silence.  She then starts to speak another language.  I said 40 baht (it means large).  Finally I gave her my 1000 baht.  She laughed at me and started screaming.

Nasty place.

... and some folks need to have their entertainment served to them, instead of making it themselves. That's why TV became so popular.

The fact is, we don't see things as they are. We see them as we are. If we're feeling contented, we tend to find things around us pleasant. If we are upset or angry at something, we are not going to be comfortable with very much in our surroundings.

We've all known a person (or more likely, people,) who, no matter where they are, are not happy with some aspect of being there, and complain loudly about the place (just think of all the Thai bashing that goes on here.) It's those same people who didn't like their home country so moved to the Angeles City first but didn't like it, then tried Kuta Beach and didn't like that so moved to Phuket or  Pattaya and are now complaining about that! No matter where these people go, they won't 'find happiness.'

We need to put them in the Maldives and see what happens for a fair comparison, not Phuket & Kampot.

I'm late to this party... I'll give it my 2 satang... I feel the same way as the OP... Intellectually I know that everything changes and I've managed to live my life, up until a few years ago, very well by adapting to these changes.

But now... the way I used to live my life just is working anymore.

It's impossible to strike up a conversation with an expat if they have headsets in or on the ears. It's.. difficult for me.. To strike up a conversation.. Albeit very basic conversation... With a Thai in my area that's wearing a frigging mask. Just last week in my condo building... which I am a new resident.. I greeted 2 expats in the gym... On different days. Zero reply... Headphones on... Or they... Like many nowadays.. Just didn't want to say a simple "hello".

How very sad for all concerned. Greetings and politeness is the foundation of any civilized culture..

The old city in Chiang Mai has very little vibe going on... It used to be jumping... Even in low season. I'm not interested in a party /Pattaya culture... I'm interested in a vibrant groups of expats and locals who are fun or interesting to be around. It's gone! It's not in Hua Hin anymore.. Krabi turned off their lights 4 years ago.. Bangkok is fun... Chiang Mai I'm just now learning is a mere shadow of itself days just 10 years ago.

It is not you who just gettin older? Vibrant life and good talks we had back on the beaches when I was younger, climbing, kayaking, diving/freediving/snorkling, hiking and meeting new people around every day. People stayed, came and went, but this was before internet and smart phones.

I see the young ones, still have a vibrant life around Thailan still, doing their things, but Im not part of that culture anymore, I am to old.

The older we get, the more boring we become, sad but true. I do not have time or patience to have a conversation about the same things every night week after week, months after months. Old people are boring, not Thailand 😉

You think tax issue does not arise in home country? LOL.

Despite everything, LOS is a zillion times better for me to live in than home country. I'm only here because they won't give me my pension in LOS- dirty <deleted><deleted>.

Perhaps they are indicating that they have no wish to have a conversation with some random farang they don't know. That's their right.

Seems to me that you need other people to have a good life. Some of us are happy with our own company and are not looking for, or want to make friends, as is their right, and it's not something wrong.
