Phuket Tourism Worries Mount Over Climate Change Impact
Awareness of the small window for a pleasant holiday in Thailand is increasing all the time. May to October is the rainy season. February to April is the smog season, which appears to be growing year on year. That leaves November, December and hopefully a smog free January. Except Bangkok of course, which is currently beset by smog as well as floods now in mid-October. -

Why stay in Thailand if everything is bad (according to some)
I would also see the point from the other side. Why does Thailand try to do everything to attract tourists and foreigners, despite much of the xenophobia around towards foreigners and the fact the the system does not really want to have foreigners stay to long with ease ? -

The difference is that I didn't sink to paying for it nor feeling the need to exploit poor Thai, Laotian and Cambodian women. All came to me freely. No coercion. No money. You hear little, but it's out there. The problem is the leftist publications are more abundant than the center or right leaning media. You've got MSNBC, who reports absolutely no truth, only hate. Then you've got CBS, NBC, ABC and CNN who parrot many things said on MSNBC. Opposite of that is Fox news with minor input from NewsMax and One America News, none of which are shown on any of the cable or other TV outlets in Thailand. -

Again OP asked the question and didn't mention anything about gifts to relatives, so I answered as best possible. I "Gift" my GF 49,999 for her birthday (Fun fact Krungsri Bank is one of those where 50K is too much) same again at Christmas... Am I "Remitting money" to her (Probably) would I report it (Hell no)... It's her account she can do as she pleases- 1

I would say there is very little on this earth anywhere near as pathetic as somebody attempting to appear better than everybody else. How on earth do you know how much time anybody spends in bars ? And what makes their choice of how they spend their time any less valid than yours? It really is none of your business And I didn't say it was their only choice, I leave such generalisations to people like you. -

I spent 20 years living in Thailand, loved the place, always will. I moved there when I was 33 and left when I was 53. Being quite young when I moved there, many of my friends were 10 or 20 years older than me. One thing that I noticed was how many of my retiree friends ended up returning to their home countries (for good) due to healthcare issues, including 2 who returned to Australia (Adelaide & Melbourne). Additionally, a guy who I worked with recently in the UK has parents who retired to Thailand, but returned to the UK due to his father getting cancer. -
