Nine British tourists were detained in Phuket for disturbing the peace after riding their motorcycles recklessly and causing a public nuisance that led to numerous complaints from residents and tourists.

The incident occurred early Thursday morning, with the group riding loudly along Khok San Road toward the Muang district, according to Pol Col Ekarat Plaiduang, superintendent of the Chalong police station.

Reports from witnesses described their behaviour as disruptive in the otherwise quiet resort area.

Police later tracked down the group, who had rented the motorcycles from Patong for the late-night ride.

All nine individuals were summoned to the police station, where they faced charges for public disturbance.

Their documents were checked, and each was fined, with the incident formally recorded by authorities, reported Bangkok Post.

Reckless driving would certainly make them stand out amongst the Thai drivers

  • When will they arrested fine the 9000 Thais who cause the same loud public disturbance by removing the mufflers from their bikes?

  • Probably Muslim anyway. There are quite few in the UK you know. And they are protected by the police back there

I am sorry, but I have to question this. All nine were Brits? I thought the Arabhassan Muslimah had registered trademark on such activities.

Stop it. The  fact is that these buffoons were riding around in a mostly tourist zone disturbing people. The hotels and tourists complained and action was taken. Your argument is that no action should have been taken because some Thais  may or may not drive around without a muffler and it is weak.  Another wrongful act does not excuse intentional dangerous activity.

The drivers were not just making noise, but driving like idiots scaring people. The cops could not get them for that because they did not see the wrongful activity occur, but they could get them for disturbing the peace.

Yep,

Flog them, then hang draw and quarter them and deport the remains.

Problem solved.

Easy solution, next flight out.

At least the police acted.  That’s a positive.  We can only hope for the day that CCTV captures everything and because it’s caught on camera it must be acted upon - basically removing the police from the decision making process.  Thailand loves China, why not mimic them.  Record everything, prosecute everything.

If the RTP did their job not only to catch the tourists but the locals too, Thailand would be much better

It's baffling what some tourist think is a good time...

Be careful what you wish for.   Very few people would be in favour of your sort of society

British news day today.

They are all over.

And it's not a surprise to me that it's not good news again.

Something must be wrong in their minds.

As my son can attest to, Thai do get fined for that.

True in Lam Plai Mat, they still scream up the main road out of town every night and every morning on the road next to town water supply never stopped.

Can't you find an anti-Muslimism forum to dump your garbage in?

Yeah, right! I understand. Nothing bad can happen to such stand up guys. 😉

Never. Why should they? For you? If I were you I would not indulge in such "whataboutism" since nobody cares to hear it and it does no good. Instead of complaining about something you can do nothing about you should do something to help.  Unless you want to protest and picket your local police station, what Thai people do is their concern and not yours. Did you forget that this is not your country? TIT. If police already have their share of local problems then they have every right to tell foreigners they are not welcome to come here and do the same thing. If you're going to complain I suggest you find a cause in which you can do some good, like maybe picking up litter in some of the nicer places such as Koh Larn. Maybe do some volunteer work for the poor.

Or the locals have realistic fear of reprisals…
