I have never seen an insurance PDF that does NOT clearly state "That the insured must never admit liability" in the case of any accident involving a third party:

THe Russian was doing what his insurance company demands before they will concider a claim.

True, my company told me this, don't say nothing we will get there quickly and deal with it

I just renewed my car insurance in Phuket for 7,800 baht for the year, I am insured against bodily damage, hospital care to other people for 10,000,000 baht, and 2,500,000 for damage to other people's

Who said Boris was insured ?

Who said he wasn't ?

All the police ever do is mediate compensation between victims. It saves them the time of doing the real work of investigation and arrest.

I wonder if the Russian was driving with the international drivers permit or a Thai issued DL. Because if no, he might be better off just to pay up now.

Normally, in the case of driving without a license, the insurance company has to pay, but demands the costs back from the driver or the owner of the vehicle. However, I don't know if this is the case in Thailand.

In Thailand if you drive without the proper license, you may not be entitled to protection or compensation for damages. Particularly true if it's your rental car.

From the very early days of driving in Thailand I was always told don't get involved with Thai's right or wrong, let the insurance guys sort it out, Thai attitude "Farang pay"

Who remembers the days when you had to display the insurance disc in the windscreen? well I had a bump with a poo ying driver it was her fault and my truck caved her car in, turns out she didn't any insurance, she's standing there pointing to my insurance, you have 1st class insurance we claim on yours, Not happening,

It would be the same in the UK if the motorbike rider, had no license or insurance, he would lose the claim, we don't know the Russian just might be 100% legal, I have known a couple of English guys walk away from an accident because the Thai's had no license and the police could not do a thing about it,

One accident I know of years ago a farang hired a truck and had accident with a minivan full of farangs doing a visa run, none of them had insurance, the rented truck or the minivan, the police tried to stick it on the farang with the truck, he didn't know it had no insurance when he hired it, and that minivan had been all the way to Sadao and back with no insurance,

Russian is right to demand the matter to be settled in court, most of the times it's cheaper than what is asked by the other parties

If the couple asked for 1 Million Baht as compensation, many of us would probably refuse and prefer the court's decision. Anyway, we don't know who was right and who was wrong in this traffic accident. It's up to the road police to determine it.

I think it is very obvious that it is the Russian who is at fault.

Yesterday it said the Russian guy said let the insurance sort it out , perhaps today that’s not enough for the Thai , harder to bs the insurance company

Maybe the Thai driver has no insurance ?

Even Thai's know that, a friend of mine got stopped one night, well over the limit, and the police wanted 40,000 Baht, he told them to f off he'll spend the night in jail and go to court in the morning, 5000 baht fine,

Quite interesting because usually if RTP become involved the onus of blame and compensation inevitably is placed on the foreigner regardless.

Absolute nonsense. Stop spreading this bar stool rubbish.

Lock him up!

Me too, the idiots making stupid comments about him doing as he was told to and doing what the rest of us would have done think they have the right to abuse the guy just because he is Russian.

I have come across many Russians in Phuket and they seem to be OK to me, not one of them had a bar-girl in tow, they are mostly family men with Russian wives.

I bet half of the guys making negative comments do not have insurance for their 25-year-old 125cc Honda Dream bike. 🤣

What do you expect?

We are writing on a bar stool level type of forum.

My excuse is I never come across such people in real life and so I have a look on this site now and then just to see what the other half gets up to.

The foreigner refused to pay compensation and dared the victims to take the matter to court if they wanted the money.”

Wow....dared.

Or perhaps just make sure the compensation is fair or wait for what insurance has to say.

It seems like the Russian couple stopped and offered help, unlike the usual runner their countryman would normally pull.

Didn't Britman glorify his Thai motorbike insurance compensating him and giving a very good care in a government hospital? I mean, that thread was just full of praise for police, insurance company, hospital staff and the Amazing Thailand in general.

Or....cough....someone drove the motorbike with no insurance?

Unlikely a 25 year old Dream is 125 cc.

I think they should have an IQ test - allowing only those with above average results to enter.

Obviously some you who who make such dumb generalisations would struggle to gain entry.... :whistling:
