I need help/advice on lost passaport.

Featured Replies

Good morning everyone.
I've been reading you for long time and I don't deny that it might be my only post, but I need help/advice. Briefly:
1) I'm overstayed.
2) I can't find my passport.
3) I have a ticket to go home on December 2nd.
If I couldn't find my passport, in my situation, what should I do or what would be the best solution? Thank you

1) Police report.

They will inform the immigration as well? This is my worst fear.

Only my name and surname will be enough as i no have any copies of the passport?

I did a police report some years ago for a lost passport.  As far as I am aware they did not inform immigration.  Probably a good idea to have your passport number on the report, might be handy for your embassy.

That's good.  Only a fine and no ban, try not to get arrested in the meantime.

You don't require copies of pp.

The police report is just part of the process.

Required by your embassy to issue emergency travel document.

The police will not inform immigration.

No mention of overstay.

Immigration at airport will take you to desk to pay fine and give overstay stamp.

That part of it is no big deal.

Happens more often than some would think

He should obtain police report.

That's the normal process.

Immigration will not be required.

Also time is of the essence.

Spain

Google "Spanish embassy" for address etc.

From web

Follow these steps
  1. Step 1: Email the embassy.
  2. Step 2: Wait for a response and file a police report.
  3. Step 3: Go to your appointment.
  4. Step 4: Collect your emergency travel document.

Be aware the Spanish Embassy will most likely not give you a new passport, just an emergency travel document that allows you to return to your home country, no other destination.

Untrue that entirely depends, nowadays they can process the new passports with QR codes etc in them, in around 4-5 working days, for Europeans. You just have to ask for the emergency option which often costs 10-20 euro more. The new passports only exist since a few weeks.

I have never seen them caring about your actual visa as well, they did not check mine when renewing it nor a friend who lost his (german). The german did first get a temporary one but shortly after also a permanent new one.

Guess that in your case a emergency one can be enough, as you are on overstay, your plan of saying i want to leave december 2nd is obivously stupid. You will leave as soon you get the document.

Basically you should just bring the police report and hopefully a scan/copy of your lost passport, that you have on your phone at all times ( .....? ). If your parents are not Spanish by birth it might be more complicated too.

Good point.

Fortunately for OP he mentions ....

" I have a ticket to go home on December 2nd."

If you're a Spanish national who has lost your passport or identity card outside of Spain, you can apply for a laissez-passer at the Spanish consulate in Bangkok:
  • Documents
You'll need to bring the following documents to the consulate:
    • A lost record from the Thai police station
    • A copy of your lost passport or ID card, if you have one
    • Two 3.5 x 4.5 cm photographs
    • A completed form from the embassy reception
  • Fees
The laissez-passer costs 600 THB in cash.
  • Application
You must apply in person at the consulate. Minors and people without legal capacity must be accompanied by their parents or guardians.
  • Validity
The laissez-passer is only valid for the time it takes to complete a single trip to Spain.
  • Surrendering
You must surrender the laissez-passer to the police upon entry to Spain, or at a police station within three working days of arrival.

Spain is really cheap AF, 600 baht for a emergency passport.

You should be aware, if you have reported it missing to the police, and should you later find it, you will NOT be able to use it again.

VERY IMPORTANT DETAIL!!!

The emergency travel document issued by the Spanish embassy will no be valid for a flight with any stop in a third country, only valid for direct flights!

I was in the same situation years ago, had to buy a new direct flight.

Time to splurge on business class. It will be an expensive ticket anyway.....

maybe because it's not a passport, it's a  laissez-passer, basically a permit or official authorisation to go somewhere

You must get a police report first.

Also, you might get lucky and find someone has handed it in. When I went years ago after I lost mine, there were about three boxes of lost passports.

Good luck.

1 hour ago, it is what it is said:

You might want to look up what a laissez-passer is, cos it ain't an emergency passport/travel document.

police report huh...   no connection to the immigration police...  ding ding, overstay and jail to IDC on the spot...  then hoping an embassy person come to visit you in IDC and start to deliver an emergency one

just a guess

let us know how it went...
