Can anyone explain to me why there are cannabis shops everywhere?

Featured Replies

I was surprised to see that Pattaya has turned into some sort of cannabis heaven , but I can't see many customers inside, most of them looks empty?  There must be hundreds of them in the city centre alone.  How can it be profitable?  Most of the local Thais can't afford it .

There are now more cannabis shops than 7-elevens.

Most Thais aren't that stupid to pay those silly prices, just for pretty buds.  When 10 baht a gram gets you the same buzz  icon_rasta.gif

I traveled to BKK a few weeks ago I counted 23 shops in a couple of hours

The prices charged in the tourist weed shops are ludicrous, so they probably cover their costs with a couple of customers a day.

I only buy online and am aware that I am paying well over the odds, but it's convenient.

Sounds like national parks... another dual pricing scam it is!

It is the Chinese restaurant syndrom.

My best guess, money laundering and investment scam.

We will see what the government will do next year, and do as promised starting to shut down the business.

To sell cannabis?  That's just a guess.  🙄

Traditionally, rich Thais gave a coffee shop to their useless, waster kid to run, now it seems to have changed to Ganja shops, don't need profit.

Coincidentally I found one that I think is better than the online options.

Why?

Fair price. Excellent and FRESH product which you can see and smell how FRESH.

I'm not into the 10 baht a gram stuff. I like higher end. I can get higher end online for maybe 30 baht less, but sometimes they ship STALE product and popcorn buds when you paid for more.

At the shop I used, there was another customer who appeared to be a regular coming in as I left.

So yes they're there to sell products.

Obviously, there is an oversupply of shops.

I guess it's an easy business to start is the reason there are so many.

It's kind of like wine.

Many people don't appreciate better wine. In fact, their palate doesn't register the difference.

But many people do.

The different strains REALLY do have different effects.

Heads you make a profit, tails you can still launder money.

BTW, at the shop that I found that I like, I asked about their customer base.

They told me all the tourist nationalities and Thais as well.

Yea ... ฿10 a gr or ฿500.  Easy choice for me.

I don't fall for the marketing.  10-15-20% THC level, all does pretty much the same thing, for the type I smoked so far.  4 different strains.  No major, noticeable different.

I rarely make it though a half of a 1 gr doobie.  Don't indulge much, and 1 gr would be more than enough if I did.

I would never pay 500.

My range is 100 to 180 usually with volume discount.

I think there is more to it than just THC percentages.

With better stuff, when they are marketed as having an identifiable flavor, you can actually taste the flavor, which is pretty cool.  Plus of course the differences in strain effects.

For very infrequent indulgers, that's even more reason to go for better stuff.

OCD or anxiety issues perhaps?

Pattaya is crowded, but still some empty bars and restaurants and massage shops also.

Too many think they can open and run a business not considering the over saturation.

If folks want to buy it, folks will sell it.

That's what I'm thinking as well, too many "coffee shops" .  I predict 80% of them will be out of business within 2 years.

What a stupid remark, i counted more than 100 in the city centre alone, from Naklua to South Pattaya. Plenty of 7 elevens around too, but not that many ,

Anyone who actually lives in the city can confirm it.

Seems the plant nursery know about the benefits, seen a dozen plants for sale at one on Saturday.

If you had been alert you would have noticed that the moment the previous government made it legal the shop fronts of dope magically appeared over night, this telling sign suggests that Thai business men where behind the lobbying of dope knew when it would happen ran around buying up or securing leases and where ready to pounce, id say there would be several prominent Thai business's behind the majority of stores so id expect that about 80% of the trade of doping the nation and tourists in particular to be in the hands of just a few, this practice of flooding I also noticed back in Melbourne AU, pre corvid, with the high number of Chinese students studying at Melb Uni Chinese business men threw up a lot of establishments to keep Chinese money in Chinese hands, even one Chinese woman quite wealthy and self made and a resident in the land of oz who I knew as I did a few projects for her pulled down a house on a tram route to La Trobe Uni and put in its place 16 single bed condos.....to attract Chinese studying there....That came right out of her mouth. Thats what asians are good at...

I counted 40 on Gmaps, without out zooming in, which would show more.
