I am watching Berlin Station at the moment, seems it got under my radar.

Very complex and...... good acting.

I was in Berlin 45 years ago -- the series brings back memories -- it was a very exciting place back then.

Berlin Station is a very John Le Carre type of spy story, but set in more recent times, centered around the American CIA rather than the Brits.

All the three series on ITVX.

  • Mr Inbetween   https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7472896/   One of the best series I have watched in quite some time, an easy 8/10 for me.

  • When you get very old you can re-watch stuff from a month ago and have no idea that you have seen it before.

  • Wednesday......... is back, if you (or your kids have any  interest )   4 episodes out now ---4 episodes out in September

But it was disappointing, poor casting, I would maybe give it a low 6/10.

7/10 based on the first ep. I'll watch the remaining three eps.

Not as bad as the original though - I did watch all six series - which I might generously give a "6".

The whole 'chalk and cheese', or what I'd call "odd couple" thing isn't character-driven, and seems facile.

Was reading a piece by movie critic David Stratton last week.

He was talking about underrated movies and he recommended this Aussie flick Hounds of Love.

I thought it was really good.

Unbelievably bad, elderly actors mumbling their way through dullness.

Still watching Their Marriage.

Even though the actors are spectacularly ugly and miscast, it's not predictable and fairly intelligently done.

Not a huge pleasure like Goblin or My Mister, but it will do if there's nothing else on.

Coming up on BBC3 and subsequently on the BBC iplayer from next Monday 8th is a three part 'documentary' on consecutive nights called THAILAND - The dark side of paradise. Being shown 10pm UK time (04.00 Thai time next day). All episodes are usually available shortly after the first episode has aired.

I did make the following comment on another thread so I do not exactly have high expectations for it:-

I would caveat that it is being presented by a bit of 'fluff' that appeared as a contestant on the car crash that is 'Love Island'. Taking that into account I wouldn't expect too much hard hitting journalism. Regardless, I'll give the first 10 minutes of the first episode a try and see how it goes. "

I just had the misfortune of watching the first episode on BBCiplayer although it doesn't air on BBC3 until 04.00am Thai time tomorrow 9th September.

Utter drivel presented by a woefully out of her depth (ex Love Island) Zara McDermott. Being made by the BBC it mainly focuses on young Brits when interviewing anyone. Scummy backpackers on Khao San Road and 'content creators' earning their fortunes in Bangkok and reinventing themselves  by producing banal Tik Tok/Instagram videos.

It mainly focused on the seedy side of Bangkok. Cannabis, Soi Cowboy and police raids on clubs/pubs. Didn't paint Thailand/Bangkok in a very good light.

I cannot recommend that anyone watch this rubbish but some may want to cast their eye over it for the 'car crash' value. All three episodes now available on the BBCiplayer.

I'd agree that the 3 episodes are a bit of a disappointment.  But entertaining and easy to watch.

Its not strong investigative journalism into the sex trade in Bangkok and Pattaya.  Very little moralising or drawing of conclusions in that area.

The presenter comes across as a bit clueless and uninformed about thailand.  Perhaps as a narrative technique.  She almost exclusively interviews brits under 30 on holiday and semi-annoying 'influencers'.  Wellness retreat run by an australian, real estate agent who could be american by accent, a gogo dancer aged about 40.  Very few thai people.

The brits become coy and shy when asked about sex. Don't finish sentences.

But mainly focusses on bad luck ! Visits accident departments at hospitals, jails, studies numbers of deaths in phuket !  Looks for corruption, but weakly.

She probably concluded thailand is a risky and dangerous place and she'd better stay in UK.

I enjoyed it though as its about where many of us live !

I decided to watch a movie I've seen a few times before, called, "The Book of Eli", starring Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman and Mila Kunis and I enjoyed it yet again!

Both Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman were great in this movie.

One of my favourite movies and I'm yet to watch a movie starring Denzel Washington that I didn't enjoy...

Edit:  Come to think of it, not sure I've ever seen a bad movie/series staring Gary Oldman either...

Try Highest 2 Lowest Denzels latest movie, he's looking old and tired, but that may be due to the boring script and dialogue.

Well ... he is 70

Took a quick peek, and 65 roles, and about 20 of them, I watched & enjoyed, so kudos for that.  Can't say that about most actors.

Even great actors can make crappy movies.

I enjoyed this film. 7.5/10

Based on one of my favorite Kurosawa films, "High and Low", itself based on an Ed McBain 87th Precinct novel.

I value giddys comments - if he says it’s crap, then it usually is. I always ignore the comments and watch anyway.
