Northern Irishman fights for life after Thailand holiday accident

Featured Replies

Strange.  Maybe he was drunk and fell?

Just saying, if that is the case he probably would not get near as many donations.

After all the "accidents" on Koh Tao over the years I wonder why someone bother to risk going there ever! There are of course accidents everywhere in Thailand, but there are just so many "strange" one

Renting motorcycles to tourists is a big money maker for Thais, so rental companies are not going to care too much about the renter having a m/c licence.  many Thais do not have a licence so why any different for tourists.

Throw in the poor quality local crash helmets and lack of maintenance and riding aa m/c is nearly suicidal.  Plenty of warnings, motor cyclists are the majority of Thai road fatalities

how much does life support cost for a farang with no insurance?

100k a day? 200k a day? 300?

If that's the case and he is on life support the Justgiving account is going to take a hit.

not been a great January for the Irish, i can think of a few that have hit the recent news and a good friend of mine passed unexpectedly while visiting home last week

No indication that this speciric accident occurred on Koh Tao.

Nothing said about where in Thailand it occurred.

The family chooses to not say. Why should they?

They are scabbing money from strangers, some info should be forthcoming.

It is not anyone's job yo babysit adults. When you rent a motorcycle anywhere , let alone Thailand , the responsibility is your own. Period.

These crashes have nothing to do with maintenance. And even that is the responsibility of the rider. Inspect the bike before you rent. Take it for a ride and if anything seems off , return it.

Thais do not contribute out of goodness in their hearts. They will only contribute if it is for the making of their merits as to temples. There are too many senseless accidents by their own people on Thai roads as it is.

I thought that the buffalos were extinct, being around so long time.

A young man is in the ICU on life support, fighting for his life. I know some of you here love to get grumpy and bitter every time fundraising is mentioned, but maybe take a moment to think about the situation. This is someone’s son, brother, or friend going through something unimaginable.

Theres alot of grumpy angry old people here.

Indeed, I think this is a scam until they tell more about this alledged "accident".

Or maybe there is a lot of suckers willing to part with their own money without due diligence. P.T. Barnum was right, "a fool and his money are soon parted"

Does it say this was a bike acident? I didn't see that bit.

My reply on another death so many daily, came into this post somehow. This was related to one of the dozen plus that died on a bike on tao and phangan in the past 3 weeks alone. Body counts are madness.

How can ANYONE go on such an adventure without obtaining travel insurance? DAN insurance is not expensive and covers these types of tragedies.

We live in a generation where TikTok, YouTube, GoFundMe, Influencers are the new rave.....they refuse to follow the old ways of doing things, welcome to the New World, no accountability.

There have not been dozens of deaths on bike on Tao. Perhaps you mean Thailand in general
