Getting a refund from a travel card

Featured Replies

I can't find the right forum so as I'm in Pattaya now I will post it here

So here goes , I look on this Agoda today for a room ,I find a room for 889baht ...it's in a guesthouse

I turn up at the guest house owned by Thai people

I noticed on my Qantas Pay card app there are not one 889 baht but two transactions

I immediately message Agoda ,a robot tells me the booking is non refundable, it's double booked me I said back

It hangs up my message

I go to see the Thai owners downstairs,

I tell them are 2 transaction in my Qantas pay card ,they say we can't do anything you must contact Agoda !!

He said I must of pressed the Agoda button twice creating two bookings !!!

I tell them I will have to contact Qantas pay card ?

Buts it's a number in Australia

So I paid ,2 times for one room !!!!

Can someone tell me what do you do ???

I have no idea ,will I get that second transaction back ,how do I do this with the card Qantas ??

Do I need to go to my local Member of Parliament when I get back to Australia?

I'm thinking of phoning the Australian police on Agoda !!

Probably...

You can check in three ways

1) Log into your Agoda Account on your Laptop and look at the booking confirmation.

2) Use your Agoda App on your phone and confirm and look at the booking confirmation.

3) Open your E-mail and look at the booking confirmation e-mail.

Any of these will tell you exactly what you booked at the time.

Find someone to move in with you , but maybe too late ,you must

have pressed button twice , so your fault ,just get over it ,make sure

you never make that mistake again .

Will they stop my card ?

I will have to call them in Australia I guess

Depends if your mistake of double booking caused the hotel to reserve 2 rooms, if so you won't get a refund as 2 rooms were reserved

Yes Richard

It seems there are TWO bookings a minute apart

I spoke to the Thai owners earlier on as this place has 6 rooms and they're all full so it can't be a two room booking unless ...they rented out the room I double booked?

They told me contact Agoda ,lucky Harris had given me their email,it's 890 baht I'm losing

I want to talk to the CEO of Agoda !!

The silly app , circling around forever I think I clicked it again

Can I dispute this with the Qantas card company?

How have you confirmed that ?

... Do you have two separate e-mail receipts, with different reference numbers a minute apart ?

Are you checking on your Agoda App - What does it say there ?

... Two separate bookings ? or one booking which has two rooms booked, same receipt ?

*i.e. trying to get to the bottom of whether you actually made two separate bookings a minute apart, or if there was an internet / Agoda glitch.

Regardless: IF the place has 6 rooms and all 6 are occupied - the second room in 'your name' did not pass through to the end vendor.

Thus: the 'end vendor' the Guest-house / hotel...  can be able to tell you IF two rooms were booked in your name or not.

I use Agoda quite frequently here in Thailand and elsewhere. Sometimes, the transaction will show twice on my card statement. One is "pending" and the other is normal. I think the "pending" is just a temporary hold on the funds whilst the booking is confirmed. I have never been charged twice. Unless you have 2 separate email confirmations (with different confirmation numbers) then I would suggest you have nothing to worry about. The "pending" hold on funds normally drops off within a few days.

Exactly - as you mentioned (and as I did earlier) thats why its important to know exactly what the Ops recept(s) state... and if he has two separate receipts or not.

 - and he can check that in numerous ways.

He may be chasing his tail...

The issue of course the difficulty of trying to assist someone who struggles to assist themselves.

Yeah punk! Go ahead, make my day!

George, have you ever asked yourself? You Bruce Wills did. "How can the same <deleted> happen to the same guy twice". In your case the problems are insurmountable! 😂

You've accused George of suffering dementia....

...... to use your own words against you, what gives YOU the right ?

Gottfrid, you're vapid hypocrite....     attacking a guy who's asking for help, this isn't one of his usually off the wall stories...  have the mental capacity to differentiate.

IF the room was booked twice....  as you mentioned earlier, one of them should be free (at least for the first night - until they filled it after a no show on the second night).

Thus: Can the hotel (guest house) show that there were two separate bookings ?

Can you get written confirmation from the hotel that they have full occupancy for your 'booking' duration (thus the other room was occupied anyway) ?

------------

You may need to chalk it down to experience.

I got caught out in Japan....   I'd booked a hotel that had free cancellation until the night before.

Given 'variable travel plans and inclement weather in the mountains' - I opted to hold the booking incase transport options were closed off (plan B sort of thing).

I tried to cancel the day before, but the internet in the area was soo poor the Booking.com kept hanging.....   I figured I'd try again later...  the poor weather interfered with the internet so much local Wifi was down, cell service was intermittent......   and by the time I was able to get access, it was after 10pm (Thailand time) and I'd lost the the cancellation option...

... Lesson learned...   I wrote to claim the issue - it wasn't booking.coms fault & the hotel weren't interested in a refund, I even asked to for an open booking as we'd be back the following year...  hotel went off-radar (no response)...   we ere in the same area the following year and of course didn't stay or eat at that hotel - but the issue was ultimately my own fault.

Can try, usually websites say don't press twice etc, but you'd think they would have a better way to avoid double booking.

You used a debit (ATM) card to purchase online? Fool. Only use credit cards. At least then you have some recourse.
