will the developer collect insurance or will be refused on the base of "The Act of God"?

Earthquake typically excluded from property policies. Have to buy separate cover for EQ. If no EQ insurance, might be lawsuits related to faulty design/engineering on the part of the architects/engineers, or failure of the construction company to follow construction specs, but doubt their professional liability coverage would have limits adequate for something of this magnitude. Doubtful anyone connected to the construction has the financial resources to recover from a total collapse like this. Read on another thread that this was slated to be a government office, so if true, they might end up being the one stuck with the bill.

I was at a stoplight & the car started bouncing....No strong wind, no car bumped me, engine seemed ok....

Turned out to be the quake - still some shimmies when driving for a couple of kilometers....

Then had to wait with many others for Makro to give the all clear to enter....

My wife was home & it was her first quake....It frightened her....

What an ignorant statement..

Not so ignorant. I saw few times how employers deal with wounded "under-labor".

Once he (some semi-boss a.k.a. local poo-yai) just dropped them near Phayathai hospital and drove away.

The way they treat them is very, utterly arrogant.

Live update in BBC....

In Bangkok, 70 construction workers now missing at site of collapsed buildingpublished at 17:43

17:43

While the earthquake we're reporting on happened in Myanmar, it was felt in and has heavily affected Thailand, where we're also getting continuous updates.

In Thailand's capital Bangkok, 70 construction workers are now missing at the site of a collapsed building site, the National Institute for Emergency Medicine in Thailand says - having earlier reported there were 43 people feared missing.

In a post on Facebook, it adds there were around 320 workers on the site at the time of the collapse, and 20 are trapped in the lift shafts.

The number of deaths is unclear, and a field hospital has been set up at the scene as rescuers continue to look for survivors.

We'll bring you more on this when we have it.

Somewhere not long before or after 2pm out here in rural Kamphaeng Phet I started swaying a little in my chair for about a minute. I though it was something to do with me and a balance problem. My wife was lying on the sofa and never felt a thing.

She has just come back from the big village 6km away (17:30) and the villagers all felt it there.

We live about half way between Chiang Mai and Bangkok and only about 40km from the Myanmar border as the crow flies over the hills.

My first, and hopefully last, experience of an earthquake.

Was napping, didn’t feel a thing.

Oh  man I just left Chiang Mai airpot for Krabi this morning at 7am. All I'm experiencing here is shirtless farangs, fatties and nasty Russian girls with inflated lips but no earthquake damage yet.

Farangs in Krabi scared shirtless?

Makes one consider renting rather than owning ones living quarters.

Or maybe still owning but not near a potential disaster site...

Just been told that Central Airport and Central Festival are closed while they check for any earthquake damage.

Anyone have any news about this?

All the malls closed right after the earthquake....but would think they are all open now.  Rim Ping grocery at Maya sent a message saying

they were closed right after the earthquake (I'd imagine they might have had some items fall off their shelves and wanted to clean and

examine for any damage) but said their inspections were fine and they would be open this morning.

I was at Central Festival, it is open as normal.

No damage whatsoever.

You can buy a three bed, two bath cement reinforced with rebar house in CM for 2.5M. I wouldn't pay that much money to live like a sardine stacked next to and on top of other people.  Quality construction there.  This is an earthquake zone.  Builders, architect, and structural engineers know that.  That would be a class action suit in the US.  Here.  Owners are probably SOL.

Here's a good one of a rooftop swimming pool in BK.

Interesting that when I claimed the shake went on for 3-4 mins a lot of posters said 30s max ...... but these two pool videos show extreme shaking for 1 min 40s and a total event lasting 4 mins.
