Looks more like questionable building standards, rather than the power of the earthquake

Well no, the earthquake was a factor , but the building should have been built to withstand the earthquake .    Was the concrete below given  enough time to cure before the upper part of the buil

I'm expecting at least 90 victims in that building collapse. Don't take it personally, but that's how many are missing so far. You might have missed it, but the building disintegrated. It turned to dust.

Just thought that it was rather inappropriate for offer R.I.P's to people who haven't been declared deceased yet .

Just found this video on FB, looks like someone knew it would come down, as he focused on the building quite a while before it imploded.

Or maybe he could see it swaying...... just sayin.

Now you are an engineer Nick?

Will you just stop being apologetic for the Thai's for one friggin second?

Concrete is used in Thailand instead of steel, because it's cheaper - that is the reason the building fell down.

The Don.

These people are morons, anything still standing will stay standing.

That's not necessarily true - not if they have already suffered structural damage and there are strong enough aftershocks.

Nothing from BTS to say what time or even if they are running tomorrow.?

I wouldn't trust any highrise condo in Bangkok after this

at a wild guess,   I would expect they have procedure's in place that require a full network inspection following an earthquake  ......     don't you think that's a good and logical idea,   or you just want a ride and not care.

I also think it's a good and logical idea to keep users (the paying customers) informed about what's happening.

The building should have become the "Office of the Auditor General".

Whatever that is.

Time for a big audit

am curious.. Where is the leader of the country during this natural disaster? She has not made any comments or expressed any regrets to what happened or the lives lost from it.

In any civilized world the leader would be making speeches showing their sympathy and support for rescue and organizing relief..

Perhaps she is hiding under daddy's table worried another quake will hit...

She has not made one statement or shown herself since the quake hit.

I think this video better represents the shoddy Thai condo construction. It's from "threads" so not sure if the link will show properly

Besides that one building under construction which went down all the rest look like they held up pretty good no? I see the videos of the water from pools splashing over the top but that's to be expected.

I am told the PM has announced that the BTS will be running tomorrow morning.

A 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar—not Bangkok. The epicenter was over 1,000 km away, yet videos from inside buildings are already appearing on YouTube. Some show serious structural damage, which will likely be hastily patched up to cover the problem.

This level of damage should not be happening.

This is safe?

Wouldn't pay 5 baht to own a condo in Bangkok now.
