Topless Dancing at Songkran Spurs Cultural Image Controversy

No, that not true, as Thailand is not a capital. It´s a country! Bangkok might be, but smaller cities like Pattaya beats it by far.

Also, that is not the cultural image of the country, as it belongs to the entertainment industry. Cultural heritage is a totally different thing.

Thailand still live in the 19th century with their thoughts, outdated laws, conservatism... It is all a part of the cultural heritage, look how they hold on on Thai costumes with every opportunity... But the costumes they wear were only for the richer people. and dildo's in their money box.. Now it seems that in Thailand the 60't of the 20th century are coming in... Sexual revolution, with sex toys, topless dancing, sex in the streets... People are desperate waiting for chances but the Government want to keep everything unchanged, unless it is about mobiles, TV's , holidays, and luxury goods....to show how they entered the modern world, but in the real life, the laws and punishments are still outdated..  Best example is the section 112 law, the alcohol laws, and now vaping as smoking cigarettes is no problem....Thailand is indeed a country but with on every corner sex available so in fact it is one big city

As I see it Songkran today is NOT the cultural Songkran, so how can it be tarnished.

If they want to discuss culture, then ok, but remember, culturally Thai's, male and female, went topless, you even see murals in some temples.

Thank you Mr Pedantic. The word Capital means a place associated more than any other with a specific activity or product according to one definition in the Oxford English Dictionary, ie Milan is the fashion capital of Europe, or Thailand is the sex capital of the World.

It's a dude.  I don't want to see that.

Yeah, on a certain level it's almost as weird as a sex robot or a sex toy.

Cultural controversy or 20th century prudism ?

I mean who cares?  These garbage stories about people being outraged by shirtless ladyboys or girls in spaggetti straps come out every year and will no doubt continue into the future.  Grow up and get used to it.  The people who go to these aggressive drunken water throwing fests don't care. It is only the old biddies who stay at home and see the vaselined clips that really care.

The fact that something was culturally acceptable 100 years ago doesn't mean it's acceptable today. For example, denying women the right to vote was once considered normal in many societies. This is why it's a fallacy to justify present-day practices solely on the basis of their past acceptance

women do not have time to vote, they too busy in the kitchen.

Resorting to outdated sexist jokes instead of addressing the actual point only shows that you don’t have a real argument. Humor can be a way to deflect, but it doesn’t change the fact that using past cultural norms to justify present-day practices is a logical fallacy

I've often wondered why some guys need to tell the World that they have sex with their partner .

Like they expect the whole World to be amazed and to give them a round of applause

Maybe because they know they are total plonkers and most people would suspect that they are incapable of such sexual prowess and feel the need to tell us all about it.

It does get confusing.    Over here in USA the GOP is trying to say your born a man or a woman.  So if a man goes topless it's no big deal so does that include a man showing silicon.    Would be an interesting court case.

Now regarding Thailand I think if more Thai women adopted the old traditional topless dress it would help tourism.

Damaging Thailand's cultural image!!

Ting Tong Macadangdang!! 🤣

And the second most important news article on the AseanNow site is one about the never fails to reduce high number of road traffic fatalities. Which will continue to happen long after we're all gone because Thais are simply.....?!?! Yes!

This seems to repeat every year. It was funniest a few years ago when the Ministry of Culture objected strongly to the eroding of Thai values through topless dancing during Songkran, only for them to be reminded that their own website had a mural of naked ladies splashing water.on each other...

Agree with you Quake. Didnt see any pictures, and would probably vomit if there was. 🤮

So a man transitions into a woman, then delights in legally dancing bare breasted because after all he is really a man? Thats queer. Oh yeah.

It was a topless MAN dressed as woman. Please stop this nonsense. He was dancing top less. And should be arrested. It was much simpler when we called them Ladyboys and did not import American IED idiocy.
