Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has been honoured as a 2025 Young Global Leader (YGL) by the World Economic Forum. The 38-year-old leader has been recognised among the top 114 global figures under 40, confirming her influential role as a changemaker. The prestigious platform celebrates emerging leaders with an impressive record of fostering positive change across the globe.

Confirmed by government advisor Jirayu Huangsap on April 16, this accolade highlights PM Paetongtarn’s enduring global and national influence.

Just recently, she featured in TIME magazine’s 100 Most Influential People list. Despite her relatively brief tenure, her progressive policies and dynamic leadership have been widely acknowledged, solidifying her as one of Asia's youngest and most successful female heads of government.

Since assuming office, PM Paetongtarn has tackled various critical issues with notable speed and effectiveness. Her administration has tirelessly combated call centre scams, drug-related crime, and worked on bolstering disaster preparedness.

Key initiatives such as the 30-Baht Universal Healthcare Anywhere programme and a pioneering digital wallet scheme aim to revitalise Thailand’s economy, with both projects contributing to her recognition on a global level.

Beyond her political endeavours, PM Paetongtarn is also celebrated for her contribution to promoting Thai culture worldwide. As chair of the Thai Soft Power Committee, she has been instrumental in showcasing cultural events like the Songkran festival to international audiences.

The YGL programme, established by Klaus Schwab, seeks to foster responsible leadership, and with over 1,400 global members, it champions efforts to better the world across various fields.

Meanwhile, PM Paetongtarn clarified the objectives behind the Entertainment Complex Bill, dismissing concerns about it turning Thailand into a casino hub. She emphasised its goal to drive economic growth and boost tourism, rather than focusing solely on gambling.

What? The 30 baht health scheme is not her idea. It was already there before she took office. Digital wallet was scrapped, and payments where made to bank accounts.

I would say a Nobel Prize is well in order.....

She is a real self starter....

All her governing polices such are of  such genius that world leaders look up to her....,She will turn this world around........

And she can manage all this between her weekly shopping trips for the latest power designer outfit...

She could do well as a cRump adviser and help him turn the US around onto a glorious path of world dominance with her yet to be discovered skills.

However, what an absolute load of nonsence contained in this AI generated article.

This has got to be a joke.

Of course it is, to everyone outside of the Shinawatra crime family and their red scourge.

I wonder if they could explain to us how she is considered to be a changemaker, when change indicates progress and very few of us are seeing anything that even resembles progress here. She's just simply a proxy for the dinosaurs.

The second aspect of this that's quite incredible is that they're honoring someone who was not democratically elected, quite a bit of shame and dishonor in that.

You have missed a few but if Thailand gets in that crew it is domed. Did Taksin attend the latest Forum, unlike many that are covering their As from previous attendances.

It means she has agreed behind closed doors to apply WEF guidelines, and it is bad (though not surprising) news.

Well deserved

Did any of the illegitimate Dino generals get such recognition when they were plundering the country?

It was her dad that introduced that scheme.

As for the digital wallet, as far as I can see, that has not helped the Thai economy at all.

I remember reading when Yingluck visited Germany for a conference with Angela Merkel. Upon exiting the meeting, she was asked by a reporter: "So, Madam Prime Minister, what are your plans now"? To which she replied: "Oh, now I'm going shopping"...

As usual, the  critics are quick to pounce and offer their uninformed judgements. It would have helped if  they had read the criteria and what the designation is for.

It is for CONTINUING EDUCATION purposes. The 100+ people are  nominated to attend education with international  educational institutions, seminars with experts, and meetings to share  ideas. It takes people who can benefit from outside guidance and  skill upgrades.  The fact is that the woman is PM of a large country, and rather than yell at her that concepts  may be  inappropriate, coaching  and training will be given to offer  alternative options or better ways of doing things.  It is no different than a company that upgrades the skills of  its workers, or my professional continuing education requirements.  The great thing about this format is that  she will be with her peer group, people who have similar  issues and pressures.

Read the  intent of the educational program.

The joke is the people who are  criticizing without  understanding that the program is intended to help  the  nominees do a better  job.

Maybe Ursula and Klaus got customised elephant pants. (Even those were not her idea, they've been around since the 1990's)

Don't forget Kier Starmer adopted "change" as his slogan. Change is not always a good thing.

When the WEF is involved it is definitely not a good thing.
