A foreign national believed to be intoxicated crashed his car into a crowd celebrating Songkran on Thepprasit Road in Pattaya, injuring seven people before his vehicle overturned.

Police from Pattaya City Police Station and rescuers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation were called to the scene following reports of a serious traffic crash involving multiple vehicles and casualties.

Upon arrival, emergency services found a black Honda overturned at the roadside. The driver, a foreign man estimated to be around 50 years old, sustained injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment.

The crash also involved four other cars and two motorcycles, all of which sustained varying degrees of damage. Seven people, men, women and children, who had been playing with water as part of the Songkran “Wan Lai” celebrations, were injured in the collision and taken to hospital.

Eyewitnesses reported that the Honda had been parked at the roadside before suddenly speeding forward, crashing into several vehicles and striking pedestrians. Bystanders suspected the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

Police have documented the scene and begun an investigation. They are reviewing CCTV footage, plus questioning and testing the driver as part of legal proceedings.

Authorities have yet to release the identity or nationality of the suspect as investigations continue.

Not sure what happened here.  This type event could have happened when someone falls a sleep for a second then wakes up, panics and hits the gas instead of the brake.

Lived in Florida and there were stories once a week of older people confusing the pedals and driving through the front of a shop.

It's supposed to be a mandatory ten years for this kind of thing, isn't it? I'd rather he got twenty. My sister's daughter was killed by a drunk driver in England. I hate drunk drivers.

I really detest drunk drivers

I detest drunk anybody when in public. They are a danger to everyone else as well as themselves and should be automatically put in jail.

This drunk driving ayhole needs to be facing the same penalties as the Thai's who did the same thing over this songrkan...  (or any any time of year)....

Of course, they all need to be facing the most severe of penalties - every drunk driver needs to be facing severe penalties - this is the only way to stop these needless incidents.

The vast majority of people when drunk are well behaved and just enjoying themselves.

Its a minority who are unable to control themselves and misbehave when under the influence, or who drink drive and think the laws don't apply to them.

I should have said drunk and incapable, but I still say that people who are drunk and INCAPABLE in public should be arrested on the spot and jailed.

You with the Thumbsdown.  There are people, and not just in Thailand who get drunk and INCAPABLE, and pick on some innocent person just walking along and minding their business. See how you would feel if some member of your family was set upon by some drunk.
