100 % tariff on foreign produced movies?

Featured Replies

The days of MGM or Warner Brothers solely producing and fimling moves in their studios in Southern  Calfironia ended many years ago.  Most movies are produced and financed by many domestic and international partners.  Also, most movies and  tv shows are shot digitally so does Donald Trump actually think large cannisters of film are shipped into  the US?  I wonder even if the US film industry supports this new tariff idea.

Most Americans don't watch movies with subtitles. That's tariff enough! Trump acts more and more everyday like a tin pot dictator. Make America North Korea Again!

Nothing surprises me about him,nothing.

Why do we need to film on location when we can build fake or CGI Big Bens and the Eiffel Tower? Paint a lot of white guys yellow, and we are in downtown Tokyo.

America is a terrible place to shoot. Extremely expensive and extremely unionised.

What happens to all the reruns?  Tariffs every time one is shown in the US?

Hollywood may be dying, but not necessarily because of movies filmed in foreign countries.  There are other issues.  For example, filmmakers may not like the union wages in Hollywood, so they make films in Texas.  Still a "Hollywood" film, but filmed in Texas without all the Hollywood, CA expense.

Not all of America. Plenty of places have much cheaper production facilites. It's Hollywood production that is dying. That said, one of the things that made Hollywood films (and even TV with series such as Foreign Intrigue, Hong Kong, and Adventures in Paradise) generate even more appeal after World War II was the movement to location shooting. The adventure genre really took off in the late 40s and on throughout the 50s and 60s, all because of location shooting. It provided authenticity. This stupid move by Trump will just limit storylines and generate even more insular filmmaking.

How can it possibly be a "National Security Threat"

Why would they when they get foreign incentive to make their product outside the USA?  How's the tax in California?

Only you have mentioned anything about big cannisters of film.

I didn't know that we needed to put subs on English speaking movies made here in Hollywood north.

It's true. Underlines what a moron he is. BTW Looks like Stephen Millen is going to be appointed National Security Advisor. A White Supremist as National Security Advisor - Trump has really lost the plot!!!

How would a tariff would work if a fim produced overseas is then streamed in the US?  This is why I think  Trump believes actual film is imported to the US. When I stream a movie in the US some are probably actually streamed from a server in another part of the world.  No actual pyhsical product is actually moved across borders.

Better watch out next he’s going to tariff bar fines heck that would affect 80% of the guys here!seriously he’s just bonkers pull the handle flush that orange monster!!

I just can't anymore.

He bleated this "idea" after meeting with Jon Voight.

'Nuff said.

Bet Linda Lovelace is following this closely !

Yup, she's going to find this hard to swallow.

It made me laugh. Netflix was down by 5% and popped back. Spotify the same thing. Easy peasy, Japaneasy.

Congress will agree with it and not whistle him back. Same as with the other declared national security threats.

Great idea! A remake of Deliverance would be a good start.

he's a senile old man and should be locked up

When is he going to put 200% tariffs on foreign made hurricanes? I am sure the American workers can make them themselves much much cheaper and better! And it will make America great again.
