In London, UK, by now, the major killers in and around the tube stations are the wonderful anti-terrorism police — but they are not always very choosy about whom they shoot!

What do these “passengers” do?
And Why only at this one station?

Hell yeah dude, I remember 40 baht to dollar days. And the old Thermae. And the beer bars by the tracks. And coming in to DMK, no swampy.

No taxi meters.

For the uneducated MRT is the Mass Rapid Transit Authority and BTS the Bangkok Mass Transit System.

I rode the BTS withing a few months of its opening. In all my years, I have never seen a cop on a train, or platform.

Same, opened in Dec and I came over just after New Year. In those days they used to have a festival at the World Trade Centre, always worth a couple of nights in Bangkok.

Girl I was with was scared to go on the BTS, fear of the unkown, and couldn't understand how I knew what to do with it being brand new.

Its a train, not rocket science LOL

I've seen K9 teams (two police officers, two dogs) on the BTS and the MRT quite a few times.

There are security guards located at every station. At least all of the BTS stations that I have used.

Protecting us from what?  They are hardly hotbeds of crime.

I can't remember if they have cameras. I would think they do, or should have them. I'm sure the stations have cameras. Can anyone confirm?

Both are equipped with cameras.

I rode the BTS within a few months of its opening. In all my years, I have never seen, nor needed, a cop on a train, or platform.

Why would RTP officers be working on a private enterprise such as the BTS?

No need, it's not the west, Thai's respect the other passengers.

Just got to watch out for those rude foreigners.

Perhaps you should go to Thonglor Station and submit your request to move things along.....

I once tried to read the Terms & Conditions of I think it was the the Rabbit Card for travel on the BTS. They were very extensive, and stated that customers agreed to being videotaped on BTS stations, recorded on microphones and tracked throughout the system.

Seeing as nowadays, under the excuse of preventing money laundering, users are required to give ID or Passport details to obtain  the Rabbit Card, it's easy to track and identify anyone and everyone as they pass through the ticket barriers.

It's not hard to imagine that the BTS are doing exactly the same.

I tried posting them here on AN once on a thread about privacy, but they were removed for some reason by a moderator.

Great point. I bet the crime rate is close to zero, a few dips and thats it.

If you arent an American, you should be used to being filmed everywhere.

I have occasionally seen the police on the MRT and the BTS but think they're just getting from A to B.

Don't understand why the OP thinks they're necessary. In all the years I've been using the MRT and BTS I've never seen a problem...does get a bit overcrowded at times though 😉

The ticket machines and barriers were to many Thais at first.

Thats true. Ive gotten away with stuff in the US that i wouldnt have been able to elsewhere. Nothing intentional, just mistakes that wouldnt have been forgiven somewhere else

We don't need protection.  This is not America.

Or the UK, as Ms Google points out ...

... "Stabbing and other violent crimes, including those involving knives, are indeed a problem on UK public transport, and there are several contributing factors. While statistics on knife crime on public transport specifically are not always readily available, the rise in overall knife crime in areas with high public transport usage has led to concerns about safety on trains, buses, and other forms of transit" ...

Along with the rest of Europe ...

... "Alarming Spike in Crime on Trains and Stations Across Europe"

"Figures obtained by German media organisation NiUS make specifically note that about half of the 13,543 violent crimes at stations in the first half of this year—that’s almost 27% more than in the same period just two years ago—were committed by foreign nationals. Non-German suspects were particularly overrepresented in sexual crimes at train stations, 59% of which were committed by individuals without German passports.

London officials, on the other hand, appear keen to suggest the statistical rise in Britain is largely superficial. British Transport Police have attributed the more than 50% increase in violent attacks against women and girls on the nation’s railways to a greater reporting of offences, according to The Times."

BTS and MRT may be relatively expensive (compared to other Asian countries), but I don't think there is a need for 'policemen', as trains are safe. Also, there are often guards on the platforms, mostly to stop people "falling off" when the train arrives (if there are no platform screen doors). I'm sure, they would intervene, if there was any 'trouble'.
