It must have been very tough for Joe Biden to have to try to keep going as age and infirmity began to take their toll. My opinion is that those close to him should have withdrawn him from the strain of public life much earlier.
‘Birth tourism’ organizer jailed over scheme to bring pregnant Chinese women to US
Los Angeles (AP)
A California woman was sentenced Monday to more than three years in prison in a long-running case over a business that helped pregnant Chinese women travel to the United States to deliver babies who automatically became American citizens.
US District Judge R. Gary Klausner gave Phoebe Dong a 41-month sentence and ordered her immediately taken into custody from his federal court in Los Angeles. Dong and her husband were convicted in September of conspiracy and money laundering through their company, USA Happy Baby. <SKIP>
Federal prosecutors sought a more than five-year sentence for Dong and argued that she and Liu helped more than 100 pregnant Chinese women travel to the US. They said the pair worked with others to coach women on how to trick customs officials by flying into airports believed to be more lax while wearing loose-fitting clothing to hide their pregnancies.
“For tens of thousands of dollars each, defendant helped her numerous customers deceive US authorities and buy US citizenship for their children,” prosecutors said in court filings. They declined to comment after the sentencing.

I don't suppose it helps when The Times ran a Travel item a week or so ago. It stated wonderful country, beautiful beaches, incrdiblel food and lovely people, and cheaper than Thailand. The article was about Malaysia.
That would not work, I don't think you realise the number of people who would leave the country in the year worldwide taxation is enacted.
Many Thai people as well as foreigners would simply limit their stays to less than 180 days - it's easy to do, many have homes in various places throughout the world, taking two or even three trips a year is a simple thing to do when avoiding huge amounts of tax.
Then there's the corporate route.
Thailand does not have 'Controlled Foreign Corporations' rules which means they can transfer all their offshore wealth into some corporation which controls / owns any holdings and it then becomes untouchable, they can pay themselves dividends, etc from their own foreign business entity whenever they choose.
This would likely be in a year when they're non resident in order to avoid any and all tax. This is how the 'more wealthy' individuals and families will do it if they can be bothered / motivated.
The thing is - nothing like the threat of increased taxes motivates someone to get up and go speak to an accountant - and accountants despite the incredibly boring nature of their job at first glance are very creative people!
