Old police shows

Featured Replies

I had my day off from work last night and I sat down on the cold night to watch YouTube ( never watched TV now for years )

I came across A Touch of Frost

I remembered this from 25 years ago on TV on a Friday night

I saw THE Bill .....I remembered this from then too....it brought back memories of my younger years watching it religiously on a Tuesday and Saturday night on the ABC

I saw Inspector Wexford and Inspector MORSE

I watched these shows ALL night with my blanket and heater going remembering the past , remembering nostalgia, it's all gone sadly

I stopped watching The Bill back in 2007 when REG was sacked

I started to cry last night under my blanket as I remember all the sacked actors from The Bill and then....it ended after 4o years on TV

Thankyou to inspector Frost as well

This is obviously the thread for grand granddads ?😂

  • I remember watching the Bill when it started. The one I really looked forward to every week though was Hill Street Blues. That show could make you laugh and almost cry in the same episode.

Morse required one to really concentrate, but again was brilliantly written and acted!

I still watch old episodes of Lewis on YT.  Lewis starred Kevin Whatley and Laurence Fox. It aired from 2006 to 2015. I am a retired American police officer and it actually reflected what investigations were actually like.

Rockford Files. Love James Garner, Wallace Beery, and the hot women in star appearances!

I liked The Sweeney, with John Thaw, Dennis Waterman and Garfield Morgan. RIP all three.

Is this the same Dennis Waterman that was on New Tricks?  I loved that show.

Let's not forget Bergerac with John Nettles later of Midsomer Murders.

Anybody remember The Expert with Marius Goring??

How about The Chinese Detective with David Yip?

And, not a police show but a private investigator, Shoestring with Trevor Eve later in Waking the Dead.

And for the really ancient, Dixon of Dock Green (Jack Warner) "evening all" and Z-Cars (many famous names) "Z victor one to BD".

Softly Softly a Z-Cars spin off with Barlow and Watt followed by Task Force!

Yup.

The cars were Ford Zephyr and Ford Zodiac, dad had an old police Zephyr-six as a mini-cab long long ago.

Yes, I just corrected my post!!!!! That's why it was named Z Cars

Some of the oldies are classics.  Others didn't age so well, and it makes me cringe that I was a fan back then.  Mostly for the eye candy I told myself...

Mod Squad, anyone?  Miami Vice?  Adam 12?

Car 54?

The Highway Patrol?

Dragnet?

Sgt. Preston?

The Lone Ranger?

Yep, I go all the way back to Dixon of Dock Green.

For those seeking honest coppering without too much of the CSI stuff, can I recommend the New Zealand series "The Brokenwood Mysteries", now in its 11th series, a Kiwi Midsomer Murders

Kojack, who loves you baby.

Hill street blues.

I'm only interested in UK ones as it looks cold and rainy in those shows

I think when I retire I may move to the Scottish Highlands

Also Dragnet with Jack Webb and Harry Morgan, for us U.S. folks, mainly from 1967-70

Then in later years, the much lauded Hill Street Blues (1981-87) starring Daniel Travanti, and The Shield series (2002-08), the latter starring Michael Chiklis.

I had to look that up. Yes, he was Blanco.

He flourished after he was mentored by another great character actor. The late, great Ronnie Barker. You can really tell the difference when you look at some of David Jason's earlier efforts.

This one isn't even listed on his Wikipedia page 😂
